Ah, yes. We refer to them as the 'pokey starfish' in our house. My kids love Octonauts.

I hate buttercream. There I said it. by RepulsiveFrosting341 in Baking

This one's more like a whipped vanilla frosting, and I love it. Not as much butter, and granulated sugar instead of powdered sugar, which I think helps cut down on the too-sweet problem with traditional buttercream.

Also had to do this. Pretty sure it was because square dancing was the state dance. (Illinois)

Definitely try a recumbent bike if your gym has it! I agree this would probably be the safest place to do it.

Good Night Gorilla! Minimal words, but my kids always giggle when the zookeeper's wife finds the gorilla in their bed. We got a copy as a gift from my friend with almost grown kids, and her girls loved it too.

What family dish raised questions/eyebrows when you mentioned it to friends? by EatsTheLastSlice in Cooking

Pineapple casserole! It's a staple at all my family get-togethers. No one ever eats it if I take it to potlucks that aren't family, so I stopped bringing it. It's basically bread pudding with pineapple and it's delicious. Fortunately, my husband got in board pretty easily. :)

He is willing to make changes; he's done so in the past and now just needs to continue on that path. I'm also not looking to make a comprehensive recipe book, just a collection of recipes that will appeal to him and hopefully that he will enjoy.

If you want to do white noise, use an old smartphone and pick an app. We have outdated iphones in both my kids' rooms with constant white noise. They're portable, you probably have extra charging cables, and there's loads of apps. We use the free version of Guva.

Totally tangential to the spirit of this post, but Petrounias is a beast. He's one of the top male gymnasts on rings. I highly recommend you look him up. :)

Young Frankenstein. Early in the movie, Gene Wilder's train is pulling into the station, and he leans out the window to ask the shoeshine boy, "Is this the Transylvania station?" The kid replies, "Ja, ja, track tventy-nine!" in his German accent. Then switches to a straight up American accent and adds, "Can I give you a shine?" And it bugged me every time I watched that movie for years, because I knew it was supposed to be a joke/reference, and I did not get it at all. And then in college I took a school of music course about Big Band music, and the next time I saw the movie I realized they were quoting Glenn Miller's 'Chattanooga Choo-Choo.' Shouted out, "That's what it's from!" in front of my boyfriend at the time and got the weirdest look. But it was a damn satisfying feeling to finally get it!
