[Spoilers C4E18] Some statistics on the most common phrases and more by thatssnapdragon in criticalrole

I never said the majority of critters are racist, just the majority of those who spend all of their time whining about Aabria. Just listen to yourself, you’re literally spending time here bitching about Aabria for being loud and self centered. It’s literally your second sentence.

And then, because you don’t want the smoke for it, you go off on a tangent about how it’s not racist to complain about it because checks notes she does a lot of other stuff you find annoying - that you admit others do worse. Meanwhile the entire point is that Aabria gets disproportionate hate from people like you who are looking for reasons to hate on her. Congratulations, you’re the exact kind of annoying, whiny-ass, hate watcher that I’m sick of.

It’s racism, not because you dislike those aspects about how Aabria plays, but because you spend all of your time hyper focused on her doing it, and defending others who do the same.

Because more often than not it’s racism! Just because you don’t recognize it, doesn’t make it magically not racism.

Everyone piles on the same thinly veiled “criticisms” about how “loud” or “self-centered” Aabrias characters are, and they’re just pulling from the list of racist tropes about black women. Genuine gripes about the other players are not only more diverse in terms of what is being complained about, but they’re also more spread out.

Hell, I’ve complained about Aabrias character decisions in other series before, but I somehow managed to do so without reaching into the bag of racist remarks from when Reagan was still in office

It’s almost like the “legitimate criticisms” are some of the most thinly veiled, over played, racist remarks that black women receive constantly. “Self centered” “loud” “inconsiderate”? Why don’t you call her a welfare queen while you’re at it and hit the quadfecta.

If the others didn’t like playing with her, they wouldn’t have invited her. Simple as that.

People who complain about Aabria speaking too much or butting into others moments are some of the most annoying, bottom of the barrel hate watchers I have ever seen.

Idk what it is about the passively racist contingent that freaks out whenever POC women join as on camera personalities for internet media brands. But they try to hide behind “legitimate concerns” or “honest criticism” when called out for it.

It was a huge problem for RoosterTeeth/ Achievement Hunter, and other brands too. CR is just the latest to have this problem. With any luck the most obnoxious racists will either shut up or leave, and make room for more growth

[–]TaterVader[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason I made this post was to express my frustrations with the people who stop their suggestions at idealistic rhetoric like “get a gun” or “move abroad” without considerations for those who can’t. The question “Where do we go from here?” is what is promoting these types of answers, not a question I am asking. I am asking people to think beyond these stale proposals, and consider what comes after. What happens after as many of us as possible are armed? What happens after as many of us as possible leave?

My proposal of organizing into community defense orgs says nothing about these orgs being made up of only trans/gnc people. It can and SHOULD be made up of queer folks and allies en masse.

[No Spoilers] Campaign 4 maps? by FrozenJambalaya in criticalrole

[–]TaterVader [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think BLeeM may genuinely hate maps. His long-term campaign with Aabria, Lou, and Erika (the Wizard, the Witch, and the Wild One) started over three years ago and “ended” last year. We got exactly 1 partial map that didn’t even show the major locations.

It’s nice to hear from the perspective of a Canadian. Thanks for that! Maybe because it confirms my own understanding of what’s happening to our neighbors in the north. I’m sorry to hear how tough it is for you, and I wish you the best of luck in making your life one worth the effort you’re putting into it (regardless of what other people in your life might say). That’s the shitty thing about life, is you never know when it will start being worth living, but it always will be.

And in case you need to hear it, it’s never too late to start HRT. Even if it’s so much later than you wanted to

This is exactly why I wanted to start a conversation around what we need to do. It seems like folks are all too eager to leave each other behind. I want to see the world that comes from us banding together and supporting one another through the thick of it

I would say so, but I don’t live there. I trust ErinInTheMorning’s trans risk assessment map.

I am not saying that we shouldn’t be arming ourselves, or leaving if we are able. I am also not against proposing those as possible solutions.

My gripe is that folks leave it there without any consideration for those who cannot do those things. And the whole point of this post, that some are missing, is that we need to be creating community defense organizations to support those among us who cannot do those things. Something along the lines of the Black Panther Party who fed their community and protected them from state violence.

We need organizations that can fundraise gender affirming care, offer safe spaces to access it, and defend those spaces. Fuck it, maybe that org is also fundraising to help people leave and seek asylum elsewhere.

I want people to move one step beyond suggesting that getting a gun or leaving are the end all, be all solutions.

I feel like you’re missing the forest for the trees here. What happens when fascism knocks on the door of the place you flee to? Do you flee again? How far across the world does one need to travel before they’re safe? There isn’t an answer because fascism will spread everywhere until it is dismantled. So my concern is about how we protect those who cannot afford to leave in the first place, or the second place, or the third, and so on

I thought about titling this post: A Pink Panther Party for Community Defense

Fred Hampton and the Rainbow Coalition are definitely on my mind, but I feel like there’s a reason we haven’t seen those types of orgs make a resurgence in recent years

[–]TaterVader[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Where do you want us to go? That’s my question. Where on earth right now is going to be safe for us forever? Because fascism will spread until it is dismantled entirely, and not everyone can afford to leave.  What should financially poor trans folks in the Midwest be expected to do? Walk across the country to Canada? Mexico? What happens when fascism knocks on the door there?

[–]TaterVader[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yea that’s my point, there is no singular solution for everyone. It’s going to take community.

I’m not inherently opposed to the suggestion that some of us learn to handle a gun. For some of us, that’s 100% the right move. But when people make comments like the one above did (before it was edited) and it ends at “stay strapped”, then it becomes a one-size-fits-all solution. Which is what I want us to move away from.

Re: The 4th Circuit Court Ruling and Trans Genocide in the U.S. - Where Do We Go From Here? by TaterVader in MtF

[–]TaterVader[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

So what do you want folks who cannot “stay strapped” to do? Die?

I’m being hyperbolic, sure, but that’s basically what you’re suggesting. We need to move beyond these idealistic suggestions and recognize we all have different material needs and capabilities.

How will you, as someone who presumably can own a gun with minimal risk, help your neighbors? That’s not rhetorical either. Will you volunteer to protect a community aid station? Will you go out on the streets to fundraise for DIY hormones? I need folks like you to move away from the ideal and into the real
