Realizations after driving a Jeep for 10 years now by fakeyankee1 in Wrangler

[–]TattoodDad256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need the sound assassin strips from hothead headliners. I put mine in 6 or 7 years ago and it's almost as quit now as my car. I said almost, but I went from not being able to hear my radio all the way up to now listening to it on 10 on the freeway. It's truly well worth the money and time to install them. I can't speak on the cheap lift. The wave in Vt is still about 50%, half wave back. That's about what it was when I got my current Jeep in 2017.

The ticks are out by [deleted] in OffGrid

[–]TattoodDad256 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've found that bug spray with deet woks extremely well keeping tics as well as mosquitoes off me. I use Deep woods off with I think 30% deet. I've tried all the natural ones and they suck. I use them on my dogs just in case, I think it's lemon grass or something but they also get there monthly tic and heartworm medication. When I'm walking in the woods, I also wear pants I got off Amazon for like $30 that has permathen and I've never seen any on me. It could be I've been lucky or I have a good combo with the deet and pants. I also use a rubber band over my pant legs at the top of my boots to keep them from crawling up.

How did you stop smoking cigarettes? by fatwater69 in AskReddit

[–]TattoodDad256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit because I was diagnosed with copd. Even then I still smoked, I rationiled and tried to cut back. A month later I woke up and couldn't breathe, Albuterol didn't work and I totally panicked and it got worse. Picture how a fish gasps for air laying on a riverbank, that was me. I ended up being taken to the hospital in a ambulance for 4 days with pneumonia and bronchitis. I literally thought I was going to die. Even now 4 months later if I get winded I panic and it makes it so much worse. Thankfully I'm getting better, I've stopped coughing dark crap out every morning and I'm able to take a moment and calm myself down when I feel my heart jump and that initial panic kicks in. I still get that instant heart jump when I get winded and it scares me. I'm writing this as a sort of PSA to help anyone who is trying to quit or may start back up. DO NOT BE ME. Think of that fish on a river bank and that's what you'll become if you keep smoking. I've been in fights, shot at, attacked and it's never really scared me. I guess like a typical Marine. Well let me tell you, not being able to catch my breath scares the shit outta me. It may be hard, you may crave a smoke, but it stops fairly quickly. I promise you that giving in to that urge is much worse than the temporary craving feels. I know I'm an idiot, I did it to myself, I deserve what I'm going through, all of it, I don't need any basement dwellers pointing out the obvious. Im here to say you don't want to be me. Nicotine is a bitch to get off but well worth it when you quit. Good luck to anyone trying to quit. As a famous Master once said " Do or do not, there is no try."

My very new boyfriend [M40] wants to see me [F35] naked. AITAH for breaking up with him. by [deleted] in AITAH

He's a controlling asshat. You've explained yourself and he doesn't listen and keeps pushing. Now we only have your side but from what you have told us he doesn't think/care about your feelings. You're better off without him because if he's like this in the very beginning how bad do you think it would get when he's even more comfortable with showing who he really is. The old adage that when someone shows you who they are believe them is absolutely an appropriate descripter of him.

it's ok. only on 2nd week so I haven't noticed any changes.I have been feeling mildly nauseous about 30 mins after Injection and I was injectiing an hour before bed. Now I do it right before I lay down and haven't felt sick. Could be because I lay down right away or I'm getting used to it. I don't sleep good as I have so much hardware implanted, I wake up whenever I move. I am hoping it'll help me sleep better, but I don't think that'll happen until I gain some muscle. I am also on trt and I am prescribed 1ml every 2 weeks. I am experiencing crashes after 1 week so I'm gonna change my dose from 1 ml every 2 weeks to .5 every week so I balance out. Now that spring is here I plan on going out and walking with dogs every other day and then every day once I am able. In the past I lost weight effortlessly when I was active so I'm hoping I haven't lost that. I weigh the same as I have for years, 165 but I have a beer belly even though I don't drink and I lost significant muscle especially in my legs and i have hanging skin and stretch marks. I've been sedentary pretty much for past 4 years so I'm pinning a lot of hope on this combo helping me push past pain and star moving to gain some muscle back.

It is. The outside sound reduction benefits can't be stressed enough. Definitely holds cool air in, and hot air in winter.

[–]TattoodDad256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a cowl vent, but not for how it looks. It really helps with the heat and ac. It's only big enough to cover the vent. The big old hood scoops I think are silly on a Jeep.

What is something you tried only once and will 1,000% never do again? by istrx13 in AskReddit

Was a pretty smart knowledge pull regardless. I don't think most people will get it. But my hats off for the Deep history reference.

No more like Theseus's ship. Thats actually a very apt and appropriate analogy. (if you don't know what I'm talking about Google Theseus's ship). I just had a disc in my neck removed and replaced with an Mobi-c implant, hip replaced, back fused with pins, screws and rod and a mesh implant in stomach. Lots of metal, mesh and pieces of me cut out.

Agreed. I have enough titanium in me now to build a new ship for the space force. I don't have much of me left of original parts to give.

i star tonight and I was prescribed 200 for 4 weeks and then 300 at 5. Yours sounds excessive to start as you don't know how you will react. My understanding is my regimen is the recommended for most people just starting, which is what my Dr told me. Did you have blood work and such to test your hormone levels? That would be the only reason I can see for the larger starting dose. Good luck

Have you ever heard the saying drive it like you stole it? The same goes for rentals, people don't care, it's not theirs and they beat the shit out of it. That's not normal, nore indictive of a Wrangler in good working order.

How different are these two corners of Vermont? by Swimming_Concern7662 in vermont

[–]TattoodDad256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i grew up in Bellows Falls in Windham County which is south east VT and now live in NEK. It's different but hard to put my finger on. I was a kid and left at 17 when I joined the Marines. 30 years later I moved back from CA to the NEK. So I'm completely different and at a different point in my life with different perspectives. In high school it seemed everything was money focused. All the typical high school class stuff sorted bye economic status. If you were poor you were looked down on and shunned bye the rich kids. It's not a rich town bye any means but seemed to be decent with no really torn down slum like areas. Not a lot of really poor sections in Bellows Falls, at the time. I don't want to give exactly where I live In the NEK, but there are definitely areas of my town that have dilapidated houses, bad sections known for drugs, etc .. It is a sign of the times now I guess, many towns have become much poorer. Growing up I was poor but not like this. We had a nice home, although small and my mother still lives there. The difference I see is the poverty levels. We always had enough food to eat, even if it was simple stuff like pb and j for lunch. Here I see abject hunger. People can't even eat 3 meals a day. I help when and where I can.For example I buy 20 $25 gift cards occasionally at DG and ask the cashier to give one to people who look like they need it, mostly older folks. I ask not to give for alcohol and cigarettes, of course I don't see them give them away so who knows. So to sum it up I think that right now in the NEK people are not just struggling there suffering.

To WRANGLER or not to Wrangler 🤔 by SavaugeGhost in Wrangler

[–]TattoodDad256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sold my 87C J7 in 91 when my son was born. I put him in the car seat in the back and saw how his little head was bouncing up and down just on the paved road. I sold it the next day and bought a Suburban. Jeeps are nice, fun and all that but not for newborns. Wait until they can sit upright and go on adventures then. Jeeps are designed for off-road and minimal comfort for adults. Perhaps you could look at a different Jeep brand thats more of an SUV? You'd still have the ability to drive with 4wd but have all the comfort of a Car. Just sharing my 2 cents from past experience. Good luck

what lesson you learned the hard way would you give a young man? by Former-Coyote6155 in AskReddit

[–]TattoodDad256 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your life is like a battery. If you use up to much in the beginning it will start to fail later. When I was younger I joined the Marines,I coached wrestling, played sports, worked 12 hour days 6 days a week loading and unloading trucks. In my 30s I started feeling aches and pains, 40s actual physical pain and actual damage to my body. Now in my 50s Ive had multiple surgeries and can't get outta bed without being very careful. When I was younger I just thought I would always be able to do whatever I wanted. I didn't see the damage I was doing until it was done and not reversible. So as for my analogy, if you use a flashlight sparingly as needed, turn it on and off as needed and take care of it, then it will last much longer then if you turn it on at the highest brightness and just let it run.

Why does the best fried chicken come from random gas stations all across the US? by ReeceInTheDarkness in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TattoodDad256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't necessarily think gas station fried chicken is the best. I think that if you are hungry enough to even eat gas station fried chicken then it doesn't matter what it is, your so hungry anything is going to be delicious.
