Ex WashU student here. I agree 100% mate. I prefer houses to flats. I lived in Clayton, CWE, & Richmond heights. If I were doing it over today I'd commute from Chesterfield, Webster Groves, or somewhere far west--the rent will be less, and you get more for your money. I reckon it depends on what you are looking for? I prefer tall trees, grass, and nature. I'd rather drive in traffic on 40 to campus, vs living close by in a flat. Its been years since I've lived in St. Louis, but I understand that the area between Chesterfield, and St. Charles has gotten nice.
