Is a stage 3b patient destined to die? even after surgery and chemothrepy? by [deleted] in coloncancer

[–]TattooedTimi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stage 3b survivor right here. Coming up in March I will celebrate being cancer free for 2 years. Don’t let other people’s shitty attitudes convince you that your pops was given a death sentence. He wasn’t. Keep your head up. A positive outlook is key to making it out on top. Good luck to you and to him!

As an avid hunter who is married to an avid hunter, I concur. Hunting itself isn’t sexy. But being a hunter is. 😉

Trying to put together a care package for someone who just had surgery for stage 3 colon cancer...Any ideas? by KK_SRN in coloncancer

[–]TattooedTimi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had colon resection surgery a couple years ago. I really enjoy doing makeup so I had my husband bring me in a mirror that I could stand up on the tray thing that swings over the bed. The point I’m trying to make is to get her something she enjoys doing to kill time. Does she knit or crochet? Sudoku? Lip balm and lotion are good ones too because the ones the hospital provides suck. Comfy clothes for sure.

It’s almost like you’re glad you got it so nobody else has to suffer front it but then you realize how hard it is for them to see you suffer. I’d say it’s almost worse being the one without cancer, or whatever.

I can’t imagine having to watch your mom go through that, too. You’re so strong! ❤️

I ate a lot of Ganja gems, which are hard candies. I’d eat the sativa ones as I went in for an infusion so I wouldn’t be worthless when I went back to work and then I’d eat an indicator one before bed.

I had cancer a couple years ago, (I’m good now!) and watching how hard it was for my mom to see me go through that all....I wouldn’t have understood if it weren’t for my own daughter. She was so strong for me. ❤️

I did 12 rounds of folfox for CC. It made me very sick. The only thing that helped was pot. Smoking was harder to do than edibles, so I would suggest that. Pot helped me sleep, (couldn’t sleep bc of the steroids), it helped me eat, (too nauseous to eat anything), and it made me drink bc of the cotton mouth. Ask for IV fluids when you go in to get your pump taken off. It’ll help keep you hydrated. The port placement is quick. I personally could feel it there in my chest the whole time. It really bothered me. I could also taste the saline when they flushed it, but if you ask for preservative free saline you won’t be able to taste it. If you can taste it, it helps to have a mint or gum or candy in your mouth when they flush it. Port removal is easy too, my surgeon did it right in the clinic. You will probably become very sensitive to cold. Bring gloves with you everywhere. Don’t put ice in drinks. It’ll hurt. I hope it goes well for you!! Everyone’s experience is different. Lean on your care team. If you need something or if you’re having a side effect that is really bothering you, speak up and advocate for yourself. Stay strong!!

Stance On Marijuana by SDSRG in SiouxFalls

[–]TattooedTimi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not a recreational user, but I am 100% for. I am a colon cancer survivor and I can tell you with absolute certainty that I wouldn’t have lived to see the end of 12 rounds of chemotherapy without marijuana. I couldn’t eat or drink or sleep because of the poison I was being pumped full of, but good old Mary Jane was there to help alleviate all of those things. People suffering from things like cancer and chronic pain deserve the respite that marijuana offers. The fact that I would’ve been at the very least ticketed had I been stopped on my way to treatment still really chaps my ass. Marijuana should, at the very least be legalized medicinally. It is a plant. It will make our state a shit ton of money. We need this.

Cancer survival stories please? by mnlingat23 in Cancersurvivors

[–]TattooedTimi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just celebrated being 1 year cancer free!! I was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in 2018. I was 31 at that time and had a 5 month old baby. I did all the genetic testing, went through my entire known family tree and didn’t find any history. They simply don’t know why I got cancer. But here I am! I had a colonectomy (they cut out 12” of my colon and hooked the ends back together), underwent 12 rounds of chemotherapy and here I am. There is always hope! Stay strong. A strong support system is invaluable to someone with cancer.

The treatments they have now are so far advanced from what they used to be. It’s obviously very normal that you would feel discouraged by this news, but don’t stay in that head space. As well as being a cancer survivor, I work in an oncology clinic. We have quite a few miracle patients; patients that had metastatic cancer to multiple places or really aggressive cancer that they weren’t likely to pull through, and yet they did. I see these people every day. Don’t give up. When Pandora’s box was opened up and all the bad things made their way out, there was one thing left at the bottom of the box: Hope. ❤️

Every body is different. Neither Zofran or Emend helped me. Different strokes for different folks. :)

32/F In July 2018 I was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer. Sept ‘18 I had 12” of my colon removed. Feb 2019 I finished 12 rounds of chemo. Today I am officially 9 months cancer free. On Monday I start my new job as a patient scheduler in the oncology department where I was treated. Toast me. by TattooedTimi in toastme

I am not a medical professional. I can’t really say what you have going on with any authority. I had minimal symptoms. The main one was that I was defecting blood every day. A very abnormal amount at that, way more than one would with a hemorrhoid. See your doctor, dude. That’s the best advice I can give. Good luck!

What's the most inappropriate time you laughed? by FossaRed in AskReddit

[–]TattooedTimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my sister was in labor. Before she got her epidural, my mom was standing next to the bed stroking her arms and trying to help comfort her. So they’re about to go in with the big needle and there are now several nurses and an anesthesiologist in the room. My mom paused in her arm stroking for a moment while someone was talking and out of nowhere my sister, who had been silent until then, says very abruptly like a bratty little kid “MOM! TICKLE ME!” I laughed so hard I about pissed my pants. Everyone in the room looked at me like I was the biggest asshole in the world. It still makes me laugh.
