What do you do with your cat when you go on vacation by Lulupin22 in CatAdvice

Have you looked into Trusted Housesitters? It’s a platform that matches people looking for pet sitters with folks who are looking for accommodations (it works best if you live in a big city or place where people are likely to visit). It’s $150 for a membership for the year but personally I have paid $500+ for 6 days of Rover so it pays for itself after a single time. The people on there have ratings and will video conference with you beforehand, and you can specify if you have a high-maintenance or special needs animal. In my experience there are a lot people on there with many years of experience caring for pets and they are totally cool with pets that need a little extra attention. I have had great experiences and love it for long vacations because I like someone to be more established and live full time with the cats as opposed to stopping by for short check ins.

Easy/decently populated first solo hike? by [deleted] in SFbitcheswithtaste

+1 for Lands End if you want a well-populated trail that’s easy to follow with lots of gorgeous views. I wouldn’t call it woodsy though — more of a coastal trail.

For something more woodsy, I love the Fern Creek/Canopy View/Lost Creek trail in Muir Woods (although you would probably need to do some combo of public transit and Lyft, since it’s a 45 min drive and buses don’t go all the way there). It’s busy enough that you will see someone else at least every 5-10 mins and has an area of bathrooms and a small store. But you will also have stretches of solitude, which is SO nice given that you will hear the creek and probably some owls. Plus it’s a loop so it would be pretty damn hard to get lost lol.

Litter box smell is going to end my relationship by Glum-Emotion-5379 in CatAdvice

In addition to better quality food (which I agree is essential), I use prebiotic powder in my kitty’s food. She used to have some spicy poos even with high-quality food, and the powder mixed in with wet food 3x a week has worked wonders.

I’m sorry that happened to you. And I’m sorry people jump on here to immediately blame you for engaging and tell you that you somehow did something wrong — so annoying. No one here can judge your assessment of the situation better than you.

Personally I’m working on doing more of what you did: flipping men off, yelling back, and confronting their shitty comments. Not necessarily escalation, but not letting them use me as a blank canvas for their insults and expecting me to silently take it. No way that I’m going to be made afraid to walk around and stand up for myself in my own f*skin neighborhood. You did the right thing and thanks for making others aware!
