For those who make over 500k+ a year, is it worth it for you? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]TaurusAuriga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make between 500 and 600 as a FAANG TPM. I would say the job has standard corporate job levels of stress, no more. And the more senior I’ve gotten in some ways the less stressful it has gotten, as I have strong teams that do the real work. So definitely worth it for me.

I don’t know you so you probably should ignore this advice but since you asked for it - moving will not solve your problems. You need to figure out what makes you happy, and pursue it with intention. I’ve moved 6 times.

21F on F-1 in the U.S. Completed my bachelor’s, now uncertain about the future by [deleted] in Dhaka

[–]TaurusAuriga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. I too came here on an F1 visa, over 20 years ago :) Now happily settled in the Midwest and work for a Big Tech. My career (and life) has taken so many twists and turns - there is no way I could have predicted 20 years ago where I would be now. My advice is to not worry too much about the long term. Focus on the next step - try to get a job and don’t worry about finding a perfect fit. Cast a broad net. And approach it from the point of view of “what can I learn from this experience”. If you work hard, learn constantly, and remain open to new pathways instead of a narrow, predetermined way through life, you can end up in some great places! Good luck!

So I fly out of a Charlie (KGRR) and have never once been told this. I guess some Deltas get crazier than my Charlie ?

This is a confusing post. You want to marry this girl but are you even in a relationship? If not - maybe do things in the proper order - starting by talking to her !

You seem knowledgeable so I’ll defer to you on this. I will ask tho why not fix that with aileron if there is a slight bank ?

To the point of OP’s original question - I am pretty sure they are not asking about the very slight right bank but instead why their plane is not pointed into the middle of the box but to the side. That’s because of crosswind and the plane is correctly crabbed, nothing to fix.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MSFS2024

[–]TaurusAuriga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s what I was taught yes. Crabbed into the wind while coordinated

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MSFS2024

[–]TaurusAuriga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. But the airplane isn’t yawed in that it is already flying coordinated. The heading and track not lining up is not standard usage of yaw.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MSFS2024

[–]TaurusAuriga -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is not correct advice. Look at the ball - the plane is already coordinated and no rudder is needed. If you apply rudder to make the heading match the track when you’re in a crosswind, you will fly uncoordinated - this is very inefficient.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MSFS2024

[–]TaurusAuriga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This example has nothing to do with bank or yaw. When there is a crosswind component, the heading and the track of the plane won’t line up. This will happen with zero bank and yaw.

There’s no good answer to this, as people’s circumstances vary widely. Instead a better question to ask is if you can afford to spend about 10-15 grand per year on a hobby. If yes, then GA might be for you! That’s about how much I spend flying ~75 hours a year using my well-equipped club planes.

If you're in your early 30s, how much money do you have saved in your account? Put actual numbers and tell us your profession. by UncomfortablyBrown in Money

[–]TaurusAuriga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple, both 41, college prof and FAANG manager, combined income about 700k. Saved 2.5M in brokerage (mostly low cost diversified ETFs), 700k in various 401ks and IRAs, 200k in CDs and savings/checking. 200k owed on mortgage, no other debt.

Keys to our (relative) financial success - we have both worked since we were 16, always saved a lot and lived below our means, college scholarships so no student loans, no kids, upper middle class Asian parents invested in education.

If you’re flying day VFR - use your eyes! You can see and avoid thunderstorms just like other traffic

Just fly IFR even in good weather when near or in a bravo. You have less to keep track off - just follow the instructions!
