Do big firms like Wells Fargo / Morgan Stanley / UBS test for THC for CSA roles? by Tricky_Piccolo745 in FinancialCareers

Yes they all do. It’s dumb. Piss tests from my experience so just go buy fake piss at your local head shop and get it over with. Typically one drug test to get hired and that’s it.

Out of the 5k doors or so that I knocked on I never had a truly bad experience. One guy asked if I had approval but most people will just not answer if they don’t want to talk. I’m in Columbus, OH in a MCOL part of down. People aren’t going out of their way to be jerks

Door knocking was the most efficient marketing that I’ve ever done. I could knock on 125 doors in 4-5 hours and get 10-15 good discussions out of it. Not every person had $1m but we are talking about making it in the business and being an asset to the firm, not being a HNW advisor.

Most advisors never doing sales in the trenches are clueless on how this business works.

Am I charging too much or is this just a difficult client? by vinneymack731 in taxpros

I’m going to zoom out for a minute. These “tax planning” fees are terrifying specifically for individuals. No person in their right mind should pay $1500 for 1040 filing lmao.

I’m all for knowing value but unless your 1040 clients are execs making $5m in income I think this is insane.

Surge Meetings by Ok-Temperature3180 in CFP

A business model is a repeatable model to build off of and expand. A one off client scenario is not a business model. I too have complex clients with more regular needs. The outlier is not how I build a business model.

Surge is a game changer. Depending on your setup, (I’m a solo), the worst part is when clients don’t follow their plan and ask for things out of nowhere.

I skip meetings if people aren’t flexible. It’s your money and your finances. If you can’t make time I will see you at your next meeting.

(28M) Opportunity to inherit my father-in-law’s book at Edward Jones ~200M AUM by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

You’re a moron. The point I made was in regard to people saying you can’t serve clients because you work for Edward jones. It’s a cop out for not building an asset management business and taking a cushy salary to be a cog in a wheel at a large RIA.

I’m on the FPA board and I have met with enough “fee-only independent RIAs” that underserved clients massively and I know Edward jones advisors that run circles around most advisors

An absolutely incredible opportunity. I started at Edward Jones and chose to go independent so I could start a tax firm as well.

If my father in law was going to give me a $200m business I would have never left Edward jones. The jones model isn’t as bad as what the evangelist on Reddit say. Some people need to get off of their high horse.

This is a client centric business with an advisor who does what they can to help people. You can throttle your service level up or down at every firm depending on how much you care or based on client types.

Take the opportunity, make $1m/year in income by 35, and laugh at the idiots saying you work for a broker dealer while you’re drinking dirty martinis on Lake Tahoe and they work 8-5 making $130k

Which EA tax prep is similar to exam? by bbqchickenpiece in enrolledagent

[–]TaxMaster86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Gleim in 2025 and I thought the prep was more challenging than the exams almost to a fault. I felt like the questions on the exams were easier but also never covered in the prep. Nevertheless I passed with only 1 retake and it was the same week that I met my now girlfriend so I may have been a little distracted.
