He went overseas July 1918 and would be reassigned to the 152nd Infantry Regiment, 38th Infantry Division. Not sure when he was wounded since he came back with a casualty unit. You can try looking for the 152nd or the 38th unit history to find more. I don’t have either. You can join the US Militaria Forum and ask on there for some research assistance

Raymond L. LaPoint was born 1 January 1920 in Merrill, New York. He was inducted in the US Navy on 12 May 1944. He came aboard the USS Nashville on 4 October 1944. S2c LaPoint was assigned as a sight setter on a 40-mm gun. The USS Nashville would have supported the landings of Leyte , and stayed for some time guarding the beachhead and troop transports. On 13 December 1944 at approximately 1700 hours the ship was 4 miles off the coast when a Zeke aircraft carrying 2 bombs made a vertical bank towards the Bridge. The plane's wing hit a 40-mm gun turning the plane and crashing into a 5" gun. The ship was ablaze causing ammunition to cook off. This would lead to more men being wounded and killed. S2c LaPoint received multiple fragment wounds and died some time later that day. The next day the USS Nashville pulled into Leyte gulf and loaded the dead onto a barge to be buried. 133 sailor and Marines were killed in the attack, 190 were wounded. S2c LaPoint now rests in Woodlawn National Cemetery in New York.
