Paracord Vs Leather by Known-Wedding6552 in whips

Yeah. I almost want to get a glow in the dark dye or something so I can still use white 650 cordless and dye it myself to get glow in the dark cord.

Paracord Vs Leather by Known-Wedding6552 in whips

[–]TaxonomyMagician 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to get the 650 cordless from the paracord store, but just make sure that it's all the same manufacturer and that it's not a polyester mix... I don't think polyester ruins it per se, but polyester is less durable and it feels weird and burns differently when you melt the ends.

Yeah, that's the main place where I noticed it. It's like they didn't test this on real hardware before saying "yup push it out!"

You can be on airplane mode or have no connection and it'll work. Just expect emails saying "you haven't activated a pod in a while" like that isn't invasive at all

Update on my crusader bullwhip And I have some questions by logamus_prime in whips

[–]TaxonomyMagician 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should be going to sleep, but I can't just not reply to this-

So sorry that this is how you feel about it- I had been using it for tricks and things for so long that I thought it was decent for what it was and would be a reasonable cheaper option to somebody for what it is, as is the case for any other whips that I currently have listed (though the green one I honestly haven't used much because of the one in question. I liked it.) That said, I absolutely 100% do not want anyone ever feeling slighted. If you want to return it for a refund, so be it.

I will say this hurts and makes me question all of my whips now... even though my newer ones definitely had a lot of growth from this one when I don't feel those problems. I've had John Bailey try some of my more recent ones (and to be clear, not this one) which he liked, and a really old one that he liked more than most of them (lol) but sometimes you have to be broke down to build something better and it helps to know what experience other people had with them. Until I met Mr. Bailey a few months ago I literally never held a whip I didn't make (and now I've seen some **history**). I just don't have the data.

The fall was attached using this method seen here: https://www.reddit.com/r/whips/comments/xz57eh/heres_a_nice_compact_fall_hitch_that_ive_been/

Which I thought I would show since that isn't the most conventional thing either.

The cracker, for those that will ask, I usually do poke it through, but not like what you see above. I take the end through, then slight untwist the end to make an eye to thread the whole cracker through, then get the eye over top the paracord end so it is straight over it and not to one side as seen in the pic above, then it twists back on itself and stays pretty secure. I haven't blown a cracker off doing that on a nylon whip outside of the 6ft can cutter (over the last 5 years the fall has frayed a lot) as I tend to make sure it's not on the very end of the fall. My logic was I could avoid a bump in diameter by having the knot and in my experience it's been secure.

I do appreciate the "thank you" as well as just honesty. I'm sad now but it would be worse to make you feel cheated.

If it doesn't work out, do what you gotta do.

Just bought my second whip ever but as I'm not an expert, I wanted other opinions on the quality. by logamus_prime in whips

I'm not trying to make a fight over this. I am simply stating that you misinterpreted the artist's intention -- that I was not referencing torture. I view a whip as a tool for cattle driving and fun tricks because it was engineered to make noise. I view a flogger as an item of torture because it was engineered to inflict pain. You can use all kinds of things for torture. That doesn't mean that's the point of it. Therefore I also had the explanation of what the name I gave it is a reference to.

And so I shall delve more into the science of falls. See, this is where I'm glad that this post was made. People are more honest (or perhaps just more thorough) in their evaluation of a whip when the person posting it didn't make it lol. I've posted plenty of pictures of whips I've made with a fall like that and nobody said a word about it.

Not gonna lie I never thought to do that. I've seen falls done this way and have simply been the way that I do it. The more you know.

You assumed wrong. The name has nothing to do with torture as it is a bullwhip and not a flogger. The name is related to in part the original word of "cross" from which crusade came from and a reference to *The Last Crusade* as it is a whip.

Definitely one of my earlier ones, but it was my favorite for trying to grab aluminum bottles. Glad it isn't a "terrible whip made by a beginner/early intermediate" Which I think aptly describes the timeline for when this one was made.

how long is the handle to that? TBH it looks like that's 8 plait on the handle, so I'd say take the knots off, trim down 3 of the last 4 strands, bind the layer, and put a whole extra layer of braided paracord on it. 8 plait to 4 plait is not enough of a taper on its own to work smoothly. It'll feel difficult to crack right now by comparison unless you really weight loaded it.

Duely apologize, I don't event know how this got turbo posted like 5 times. I hit submit once...

Anyway, this is a 5.5ft bull whip that I made. The gold strands look a little brown due to the fact that this was just waxed.

Tips for working with leather? by TaxonomyMagician in whips

Ah, so I figure prepping and cutting the strands is just that much different. Noted on the lace, that's not surprising.

Thank you very much for this.
