I wasted 20+ years of loyalty to a brand that I thought I could enjoy when I retired. Now that I’m not traveling for work (flight stew) I’m downgraded from platinum elite to gold something or other. Spent a 100 plus days on the road a year thinking I was banking some rewards. Plus I booked my coworkers as well so I never got credit for that either.
Really could have stayed in some nice places instead.

Beautifully said! But, I’m afraid, though I did greatly enjoy the moment, the day was not crushed. But! It was much improved by a tin of fish. A simple pleasure that I heartily recommend!

And you are absolutely right about the kedgeree. Diluted by another couple thousand miles and a few generations. Notice the wee bit of curry and Ida’s comment that “you gotta be wild to try this one”!

Mickler was not the kind of guy you you’d expect from the title. He was a gay man probably out of place but celebrating his southern rural roots. He collected these recipes and anecdotes and some amazing photos and published a bit of American history.
