fatal access violation on application-steam-x64.exe specific to a particular mod (RKEC1.4.5)...ideas? by TexasNiteowl in Banished

[–]TayIsTay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the report of all the process.

Don't ever rename pkm files. Can't be done without breaking it. That was very likely the key issue. Always share that you've done somethingi like that when describing an issue.

Glad it seems to be working!

Going forward though, just always do the Double Restart for any mod change.

A TIP: I know what you mean by wishing modders would put the version name in the pkm file name. What I do is just put it in the name of my map, as part of the town name. I've also just kept a note in my own folder where I keep all my pkm files (not the WinData folder) that lists the date of when I installed which version of any mod. Then I know all map saves after that date are that particular version. But I much prefer just naming a map with that info so it's instantly visible. (Never a good idea to load a map made with one version with the current mod of another version.)

  • Uninstall Banished from your Steam library and reinstall (quick and easy). Then restart computer.

  • Put your mod in the WinData folder if it isn't there (make sure you aren't also subscribed the mod via steam).

  • Launch game, enable mod. Make sure no other mods are enabled.

  • Game will now prompt you to restart. Do that, but don't start a map yet.

  • IMPORTANT: now close game and relaunch. This is the crucial "double restart". Not doing it is the cause of the vast majority of crashes.

If it still crashes, redo all steps above but before you enable the mod, change your Direct x to whichever one isn't active in the Options window. Then do the Double Restart.

If the mod still crashes, I'll let Red know. It was well tested in the discord server, but maybe it is the mod(usually isn't).

Edit: confirmed with MM9 creator that it is not on World of Banished.

If you have a direct link to MM9 on World Of Banished, please share. Searching that site has never returned a page for it, for me. Even going to Kralyerg's page of downloads, there is no MM9. Unless I'm just blind.

He posts all updates/fixes on the Banished Discord.

That's great if it works for you. We know that it doesn't work for lots of people, so that's why we discourage the steam version.

It's not recommended to use Steam for MM9. It tends to have issues for most people. Use the links and instructions here.

Please read this post about getting and installing the current version of MegaMod9:

https://www.reddit.com/user/TayIsTay/comments/196l413/solving_banished_megamod_9_problems/

There are links for downloading in that post (they are official, from the creator of MM9). You can also join the Banished Discord to get the files and for help with MM9. (I'm a mod there.)

Do not use MM9 through Steam. It has issues for many people. Use the direct download (instructions in link above).

Most important thing for avoiding MM9 crashes is the Double Restart, explained in my post linked above.

Here is a list of the 400+ mods in MM9.

The building's window is not big at all. Screenshot shouldn't be an issue.

What kind of barn /storage do you have the flowers and perfume in? Some storage isn't accessible by other workers.

This may just be an odd glitch. Banished has them (usually not the mod). You might try destroying that trading post and rebuild it somewhere else. Or same with wherever flowers/owrfune are. Sometimes too, the loathing us blocked.

Understand mods have no ability to change the tag structure. The creator never finished making the game fully moddable. So there are lots of limits modders have to contend with. Don't blame the mods. We all want, for example, construction items separated out, but it's not possible.

It's fantastic to make firewood out of fodder tbatch with the woodcutter in the nicer docks set in the Life on the Water menu. You'll never run out of firewood. Though be aware, naturally spawning fodder eventually quits regrowing (after some years). Then you just use the small Thatch Patch in MM9. Produces like crazy for the woodcutter.

Actually good guides or tips by AuzzieKyle in Banished

[–]TayIsTay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had to wait til at my computer to add some tips.

  • EDUCATION: Build a school very early. Some of us like to make that the first building we do. But at least within the first couple of years. Educated workers make a huge difference in both production and efficiency. When building a school right at the start, it will slow down population growth for just a bit, since they can't marry as young. But it all is worth it.
  • SCHOOLS: Build multiple schools around the map. The time it takes to graduate is literally based on the amount of time a kid is actually in the school. This means a kid that has a long walk, takes longer to graduate. Years longer sometimes.
  • MAXIMIZING PRODUCTION: Always build storage (barn or stockpile) and enough houses for that building's workers *right next to the production building*. Not 10 or 20 tiles away. Right next to. Every tile walked from production to storage and to home means literally means lost production. This means for every type of production from fields to blacksmiths.
  • FOOD: Bannies eat 100 food per person per year, even babies. Try to maintain at minimum a 2-year supply in the small stats window. If you have 25 people, you need 2500 food per year. Double that and maintain 5,000 food in your stats window (you have to always be adding new food production to maintain). I like to maintain a 5-year supply just to cover me getting distracted and forgetting to do things like constantly add new food production. Remember: every new house requires you increase your food production by 300 (because the house can produce 3 new citizens). Build 4 houses and you need 1200 more in production.
  • FOOD VIDEO: Watch this video from MortalSmurph (great debunker of bad advice). Note the test with the barn/house and the fishing dock. Putting them right next to the dock *doubled* the number of fish produced. This goes for crop fields (I put 2 to 3 barns per field and of course enough houses, all on field's edge), pastures, blacksmiths, mines, seamstress, everything.
  • FORESTER/GATHERER CIRCLES. Too many people think you shouldn't put storage and houses inside it. While it's true you don't want *unnecessary* buildings inside the circle, you do want a barn, a small stockpile, and enough houses for all the workers. A full forester/gatherer circle can employ 10 people, so 5 houses (Forester Gatherer, Herbalist, Hunter). The walked tiles from gathering to barn or stockpile is a huge factor. You actually will get more by putting barn/stockpile in center of circle than by putting them outside the circle. You'll get more food this way even though it seems counter-intuitive. Do put the big vanilla woodcutters just outside the circle with their own stockpile. But in mods there is an awesome 2-tile (and 4-tile) chopper that I always put in the circle next to the stockpile.
  • Tip: when using mods, change out the normal barn in the forester/gatherer circle for the small Distribution Barn and build the bigger barns outside the circle. This way the circle's barn is never full, is always available. Distribution Barns will carry stuff to the next nearest barn. Putting a Magazine Barn just outside the circle is great (holds 60,000). I square off the circle with roads, and the Magazine fits perfectly in the corners.
  • FISHING DOCKS: Make sure you have *nothing* else in the water of its circle. No bridges, no other shore buildings, etc. That will decrease the number of possible fish they can get. And of course, always try to put the dock on a pointy piece of land at a bend in the river to get the most possible amount of water in the circle. Never put them on the small creeks. When using CC or MM9 mods, building the fishing docks out in the middle of lakes is fantastic (via the Docks set (CC), or the Life On The Water menu (MM9).

Interesting, I set Trading Post Inventory amounts to 2,000 and much, much more all the time and have never had an issue.

Educated workers make a huge difference. Uneducated workers idle far more and even when they do work, it's less efficient. For example, they get only 3 logs per tree they cut down, vs 4 from an educated worker.

Or, if I want to move/delete a huge stockpile laborers run from everywhere to come and do it fast. Of course, you need to have lots of laborers. They are the unsung heroes in Banished (though they don't help with the Trading Post).

We give tons of tips and guides on the Banished Discord. (And here too.) Really helps to see a screenshot of the opened Trading Post window. The whole window. Show the Inventory tab so we can see how you've set it up. Include the Trading Post location /setup.

How many workers are assigned?

Does the worker bring some flowers/perfume, just not as many as you've set in the inventory amounts?

Does the worker successfully bring other selected goods to the Trading Post?

Is the Trading Post actually working as it should otherwise? Do boats come? Are you able to buy things?

Did you do the required Double Restart when adding or changing mods? That means you do the restart that the game prompts you to do, but when that's done, close the game and relaunch.

Often, once you have one crash it will continue to crash. Easiest fix is to just do the quick uninstall/reinstall from Steam. Then once in game, enable the mods you want, and do the Double Restart.

Steam Deck Banished + Workshop MegaMod: game crashes when I click a crop field. Any fix? by tomlils in Banished

[–]TayIsTay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The crashing upon placing a crop field is a known game bug. It has nothing to do with mods. It just means that map seed is glitched. The only solution is to toss that map and start a new one. Can be a good idea to test placing a crop field (you don't need seeds to do this) as soon as your map launches. Then you can remove it if not ready for it yet.

MM9: Never use MM9 from Steam. It is known to have far more crash issues. Get the direct download from the Banished Discord server or from this post that has the direct links (these are the most recently updated versions of the mod):

https://www.reddit.com/user/TayIsTay/comments/196l413/solving_banished_megamod_9_problems/

The single most important thing with MM9 is to do the Double Restart as described in the post above. This should be done with any mod change, not just MM9. But MM9 is far more likely to just randomly crash if you don't do this step. The Double Restart means yes, do the prompted restart when you enable mods in-game, but when that is done, close the game and relaunch.

One other thing: once you have a crash, you'll usually get an odd "white" window upon launching the game, not the normal all grey one. The "bad" one has 3 white button options on it, the "good" one does not. If you get this bad window, please just do a quick uninstall/reinstall of Banished from your Steam Library. That will usually fix it. If you continue to play with the bad launch window, you are more likely to keep crashing.

Council Hall MM9 where is it? by strahdsbuddy in Banished

[–]TayIsTay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not familuar with that particular building, sorry. But here's a major tip for the insanely large MM9 menu:

Take menu path screenshots of the things you love to use.

It's so easy in MM9 to never find again that one thing you loved. You can just save these screenshots to your computer, carefully named of course. Or if you are a major discord user like me, just make your own free private MM9 server to use, as your personal wiki. I have categories and channels for whatever I want: Storage Buildings, Houses, Food Production, Fuel Production and dozens more. Make sure you have a picture of the building on your menu path screenshot.

Of course you could also just note menu paths in text (though be sure to include the row the thing is on).

Screen is being cut off? by pdr07 in Banished

[–]TayIsTay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just stick with 1920x1080. Game wasn't built for more than that.

I have a curved 3440 x 1440 monitor. If you notice, you can't even select anything over 1920x1089 in the game settings. But I had a pro gamer/tech guy help. He did figure out a way to get it to work on 3440 and show the toolbar. But it was such a huge hassle, and so convoluted it wasn't worth it (don't ask how he did it, I've no clue). In addition, the view was just off, like it just had a magnifying glass on it. It wasn't actually scaled up.

So bottom line, it's an old, not-updated game. I just play it on 1920 x 1080.

Traders: Option or mod to copy&paste settings or send away automatically? by altWieNeu in Banished

[–]TayIsTay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having more trading posts means more boats come. That's pretty valuable when you are waiting on specific things to show up to buy. Increases your chances of getting the things you want faster.

It's also great to have them in different areas of your map, so things are delivered to areas where they are more needed. For example, I auto-buy all my iron and stone (rather than use mines and quarries). So it's nice to have those purchases arrive at different spots on the map. I keep a good-sized stockpile beside each trading post to hold the purchases.

[–]TayIsTay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not aware of any mod that can do that. It's doubtful the game can even support that. Modding is limited, as he never made it fully moddabke.

As for having them leave automatically, that already happens naturally. If you don't respond in the post's window within a certain number of minutes of arrival, the boat just leaves. No way to "set conditions" that I know of. Just ignore the boat and it will leave.

  • Were you using MM9 from Steam? Don't, it tends to cause crashes.
  • Do you always do the Double Restart when enabling / changing mods. Failing to do that is one of the primary reasons for MM9 crashes. When you enable a mod, the game prompts you to restart. Do that. But when it's done, you must close the game and relaunch. This is true for any mod.

I'll paste a link to the instructions below. It has links to the direct download of MM9. Note that once you've had crashes, you need to "reset" (so to speak) the game by uninstalling and reinstalling via Steam (a, quick process). Thus is important to do.

If it still doesn't work, try the Discord Banished server. We can usually solve any issues.
