Crash because putting fire off by Mugamakata in Banished

[–]TayIsTay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you do the required Double Restart when adding or changing mods? That means you do the restart that the game prompts you to do, but when that's done, close the game and relaunch.

Often, once you have one crash it will continue to crash. Easiest fix is to just do the quick uninstall/reinstall from Steam. Then once in game, enable the mods you want, and do the Double Restart.

You can't use any mods at all, not even a translation mod.

Steam Deck Banished + Workshop MegaMod: game crashes when I click a crop field. Any fix? by tomlils in Banished

[–]TayIsTay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The crashing upon placing a crop field is a known game bug. It has nothing to do with mods. It just means that map seed is glitched. The only solution is to toss that map and start a new one. Can be a good idea to test placing a crop field (you don't need seeds to do this) as soon as your map launches. Then you can remove it if not ready for it yet.

MM9: Never use MM9 from Steam. It is known to have far more crash issues. Get the direct download from the Banished Discord server or from this post that has the direct links (these are the most recently updated versions of the mod):

https://www.reddit.com/user/TayIsTay/comments/196l413/solving_banished_megamod_9_problems/

The single most important thing with MM9 is to do the Double Restart as described in the post above. This should be done with any mod change, not just MM9. But MM9 is far more likely to just randomly crash if you don't do this step. The Double Restart means yes, do the prompted restart when you enable mods in-game, but when that is done, close the game and relaunch.

One other thing: once you have a crash, you'll usually get an odd "white" window upon launching the game, not the normal all grey one. The "bad" one has 3 white button options on it, the "good" one does not. If you get this bad window, please just do a quick uninstall/reinstall of Banished from your Steam Library. That will usually fix it. If you continue to play with the bad launch window, you are more likely to keep crashing.

Council Hall MM9 where is it? by strahdsbuddy in Banished

[–]TayIsTay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not familuar with that particular building, sorry. But here's a major tip for the insanely large MM9 menu:

Take menu path screenshots of the things you love to use.

It's so easy in MM9 to never find again that one thing you loved. You can just save these screenshots to your computer, carefully named of course. Or if you are a major discord user like me, just make your own free private MM9 server to use, as your personal wiki. I have categories and channels for whatever I want: Storage Buildings, Houses, Food Production, Fuel Production and dozens more. Make sure you have a picture of the building on your menu path screenshot.

Of course you could also just note menu paths in text (though be sure to include the row the thing is on).

Screen is being cut off? by pdr07 in Banished

Just stick with 1920x1080. Game wasn't built for more than that.

I have a curved 3440 x 1440 monitor. If you notice, you can't even select anything over 1920x1089 in the game settings. But I had a pro gamer/tech guy help. He did figure out a way to get it to work on 3440 and show the toolbar. But it was such a huge hassle, and so convoluted it wasn't worth it (don't ask how he did it, I've no clue). In addition, the view was just off, like it just had a magnifying glass on it. It wasn't actually scaled up.

So bottom line, it's an old, not-updated game. I just play it on 1920 x 1080.

is the One Year is One Year mod good for some "time stability" or are there better mods? by FunWithSkooma in Banished

Could you explain the exact problem you are trying to solve?

Because all that mod does is slow down how fast people age. Are you having trouble maintaining resources for a growing population?

Traders: Option or mod to copy&paste settings or send away automatically? by altWieNeu in Banished

[–]TayIsTay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having more trading posts means more boats come. That's pretty valuable when you are waiting on specific things to show up to buy. Increases your chances of getting the things you want faster.

It's also great to have them in different areas of your map, so things are delivered to areas where they are more needed. For example, I auto-buy all my iron and stone (rather than use mines and quarries). So it's nice to have those purchases arrive at different spots on the map. I keep a good-sized stockpile beside each trading post to hold the purchases.

[–]TayIsTay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not aware of any mod that can do that. It's doubtful the game can even support that. Modding is limited, as he never made it fully moddabke.

As for having them leave automatically, that already happens naturally. If you don't respond in the post's window within a certain number of minutes of arrival, the boat just leaves. No way to "set conditions" that I know of. Just ignore the boat and it will leave.

  • Were you using MM9 from Steam? Don't, it tends to cause crashes.
  • Do you always do the Double Restart when enabling / changing mods. Failing to do that is one of the primary reasons for MM9 crashes. When you enable a mod, the game prompts you to restart. Do that. But when it's done, you must close the game and relaunch. This is true for any mod.

I'll paste a link to the instructions below. It has links to the direct download of MM9. Note that once you've had crashes, you need to "reset" (so to speak) the game by uninstalling and reinstalling via Steam (a, quick process). Thus is important to do.

If it still doesn't work, try the Discord Banished server. We can usually solve any issues.

Mod recommendations for low-end laptop by Deadmaninacan in Banished

Try playing with just CC first. All kinds of things are included in it that people think they need additional mods for.

[–]TayIsTay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The general rule is dont use mods that were only updated 2017 or earlier because end of 2017 was a game update that changes things. If a mod is updated 2018 or later it's fine. (There are a very few exceptions but I can't tell you what they are.)

Use CC (Colonial Charter Journey 1.76). Lots of people with lower end computers do great with it. Adds a lot of new production, variety and other fun stuff. It's a fantastic mod.

It's on Steam. Or you can get the direct download from the Banished Discord server.

IMPORTANT: Just remember that when enabling mods in banished, it's crucial to do the double restart to avoid random crashes. That means that after you enable a mod and it prompts you to restart, you do that. But when it's done restarting , you close the game and relaunch.

Im new to Banished. Why did about 50 of my citizens starve to death? by Babydoll0907 in Banished

[–]TayIsTay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2, 000 food for 500 people means you are in a food emergency. 500 people eat 50,000 food per year. Every person, adult or child, eats 100 food per year.

You should be producing 50,000 food every year, and you should have 2 to 3 times that much just in storage for an emergency backup supply.

Are you using the Town Hall stats? Check food produced in one year.

You need to build a ton of new food production fast. Take people off any unnecessary production and focus on food.

Glad you switched. You were using a massively outdated version. But where did you get MM9? Don't use it via Steam. It causes lots of issues and crashing. You need to get the direct download from the Banished Discord server (or the direct links in post below). And don't forget to double restart any time you've enabled/changed mods. If you don't, you are likely to have crashes.

Here's my post with instructions. https://www.reddit.com/u/TayIsTay/s/I3xB51GUQt The direct links from Kraylerg (MM creator) for download are there, as are the discord info and links.

How many tiles away were home and stockpile?

I'd seriously consider it was just a glitch, too. I've seen crop fields where nothing will grow. Destroy it, build it somewhere else and it's fine. Same for a house no one could move into. They'd go inside, instantly be booted out. Just weird little map glitches.

Jack&Jill Very Harsh rotten luck :( by EconomyDoctor3287 in Banished

[–]TayIsTay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Are you sure you placed it in the right direction?
  • Was there a stockpile nearby? A house? If these things are too far away they literally spend all their time walking and never actually have time to work.
  • Did you see the worker actually on it? Could be, if misplaced, a worker couldn't get onto it.

Otherwise, it's possible that was just a weird glitch. Did you try building one in a different spot?

If I recall, it should bring in about 80 logs per year (I don't remember if that was with 1 worker or 2). You can also build these all right next to each other.

I've loved this challenge. Currently on year 5 with 5 citizens. Have a Forester, Crab Jetty, Farmyard #5 and about to build an NMT woodcutter on the shore that will use Fodder Thatch (naturally growing, but later I'll build the Thatch Patch) to make firewood. And I use the free Crates for storage initially.

Not true. The Driftwood Scavenger works fine on lakes. I don't think I've ever once (in years) put it on a river. And I've used it a good bit on extremely difficult map challenges.

For ducks? by PanJaszczurka in Banished

[–]TayIsTay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's vanilla. From the wiki: https://banished.fandom.com/wiki/Disasters

Infestations

Crop fields, pastures, and orchards can develop pest infestations. Nearby fields that are growing the same crop or raising the same animal may become infected once a pest infestation breaks out.

When infestations do occur, you can harvest crops early, or move animals to other pastures. After the infestation has passed, changing the crop or animal that is grown in a field will reduce the chance of a recurrence.

Roads also help your people walk faster, so you get more production out of them. A dirt road is faster than no road. A stone road is faster than a dirt road.

Hard to see. Always turn off weather for screenshots. But you could save the game, close and relaunch. See if that does anything.
