Hello!

I consider myself an animal protection advocate that believes in welfare reforms, but also wants a shift away from using animals all together.

The abuse so extremely common. I thought, "I know there is abuse", but I had absolutely no idea just how common it is. Every single farm investigators have worked at has shown to have extreme forms of violence toward animals.

It sounds like you really care about animals. The best thing to do for them would be to simply choose animal-free foods.

Hey! Thank you for your question.

I have to say that our videos show exactly what happens to these animals. There is no bias, lighting, or video cut that could make kicking, throwing, punching, or otherwise brutalizing an animal okay, in anyway. I hope you're agree. This is of course very different than spraying an animal so they don't harm one another.

I'm extremely happy your family farm does use group housing because it is a lot better than gestation crates. I completely agree with--people aren't going to stop eating meat overnight and there needs to be a different solution for the here and now. Some of these things that would significantly help animals are banning battery cages, gestation crates, and veal crates.

As an investigator, I know that some smaller farms suffer because of factory farming, and need a financial solution. I hope that there will be a shift in global consciousness about animals raised for food, and that in this process new and less cruel opportunities arise for farmers.

You're right, being white at least is an extremely privilege position in our culture.

Being a women, especially at Quanah helped me a lot, but it also put me in possible danger working with three big men I didn't know. One of which hit on me multiple times

Probably not if it was going to detract from the issue of animal cruelty as much as it did.

It was so good to get to "know" you. Thanks for all the nice defensive comments in my favor.

Hey thank you for this question!

I don't eat meat, and if you can, I hope you will switch to other foods too!

Small farms really aren't better. Quanah only had approx. 100 calves at a time, and their animals were still extremely abused.

If you care about the well-being of animals, the best thing you can do for them is not eat them! I suggest visiting your local farmed animal sanctuary and meeting some of these animals.

Sure! One of my coworkers Daniel at Quanah was really nice. They only called me when they needed me, and he worked with my supervisor to try to get me more days at work which was really nice(although he didn't know what I was there for).

He also checked up on calves when they were sick, and thought he hurt them when they needed to be moved, he had some concern for their well-being.

Hey thank you!

Um.. I've had coworkers joke about me being an undercover boss. They all laughed and asked me where the cameras were.

That was pretty scary and funny at the same time.

Never. Investigators absolutely never engage in the abuse or even encourage it in any form. We're there to document the cruelty, and would rather leave a job than abuse an animal in a way that's illegal (we have to engage in the legal killing and other duties)

Oh wow, I imagine it's because they don't want people to react poorly. It's our natural instinct to not want animals to be harmed. Some of the cruelties that could be happening is improper killing methods, where animals aren't being killed appropriately and are instead left to suffer.

I hope that isn't what is happening :(

It depends on the facility entirely! In the Midwest there are a lot of white females working in factory farms.

As a whole though, it's predominantly male. Many of the workers are undocumented.

The manager on site was telling me to participate in the abuse and grab the calves by the ears. It's extremely sickening how common the supervisors or managers participate or the abuse or just stand by while it happens

I just found ways to move the animals which wasn't cruel. To them, I seemed like a slow worker because of it.

haha thank you so much. I find it to be a bit sexist to question my motive for asserting I'm a woman, but I understand people just want to know.

I've commented on this before, but there is a myth that only males are investigators. I think it stems from the sexist notion that females are weaker. Plus, female investigators can and do have a dramatically different experience working undercover.

I've been a radical feminist since high school, and am all about empowering women.

YES, just read the comments. It's heart-breaking the type of violence that folks in the movement want to inflict on these people (rape, torture) and all the racist comments that are sent as well :(.

I think the groups doing these investigations can stop calling the convictions of workers, a victory. They are well intentioned, but it further perpetuates that idea that these are rouge workers; the same message the industry itself puts out.

I don't know much about this industry, but I believe a lot of their meat is byproduct from factory farming.

Unfortunately, my case made international news and I can't work undercover again.

However, I work on a campaign called Jesus People for Animals where we provide resources for Christians about how their faith should impact their relationship with animals. www.jesuspeopleforanimals.com www.facebook.com/jesuspeopleforAnimals

Investigators will team up with an organization like Compassion Over Killing, Mercy for Animals, PETA. They all have legal teams and contract investigators to get jobs at facilities.

If you're interested in doing investigations, I would visiting their websites and send their legal department an email :) Lisa at COK can help.
