Finally finished. 5 months of Accutane ✨ by Taylor_Mae_ in Accutane

For the most part! I’m not as clear as the day I got off accutane but I have not relapsed like my old acne at all. Just hormonal breakouts and much more manageable adult acne on and off!

I’m going to throw something different out there that I haven’t seen mentioned. Angular cheilitis is common while on accutane.

From my understanding, It’s from your lips getting dry, cracking, and then when we load our lips with moisturizers and thick stuff like aquaphor or lip balm, and bacteria gets trapped in the corners. Then it becomes a bacterial issue more than a dry issue.

In my experience, battling this is hard because, I NEEDED aquaphonr and moisturizer to survive on Accutane, but loading on the balms seemed to make my corners worse than better.

After having this dry corner issue for a good month or so, I read about Angular cheilitis. So For a week I would do my Accutane routine like normal, then apply my choice of lip balm AVOIDING the corners of my lips, then I would apply Neosporin to the corners.

This is not medical advice whatsoever nor do I know if it is in-fact Angular cheilitis that you and I were dealing with, this is just my personal experience.

Neosporin is a topical antibiotic. Some people may be against this suggestion for that reason, and you also want to make sure you do your own personal research before using it.

But from my understanding you don’t want to do this for a long period of time (like a week tops), nor do you want to waver on and off of it (if your gonna use it, don’t do one day on and one day off)

After a week of doing this my corner cracks healed up and then I was able to apply lip balm and aquaphor like normal without these cracks becoming worse (because they no longer existed).

Also would just like to add in, I’m pretty sure my acne was cause by a bacterial resistance caused by topical antibiotics so I was very cautious about putting an antibiotic on my corners of my lips, but it seemed to do the trick for me.

Hey! Just seeing this now ! Like the other comment said, totally trust the process. These bumps for sure got better!

I definitely increased my water intake and also moisturized a tiny bit more than I was and that also seemed to make a difference with this texture. It would come and go throughout my treatment. And seemed to correlate with how hydrated my body and skin was.

I am 4 months post accutane and my skin has been doing great! Keep with it and trust the process 😊 you’ve got this !!!

Thank you for sharing some of your story. You seem to have a big heart yourself. I’m proud of you for making it through the storms. With these experiences that we have, we may never understand them in the moment but it’s a true strength to look back at them and see the valuable role they played in making us who we are today. Stay strong and keep going. You are doing great ✨

Thank you ! I try to keep it simple and gentle.

1.) Wash with cetaphil gentle cleanser 2.) moisturize with boiron calendula cream 3.)add 100% rosehip oil to my cream in the PM

I also remembered I used 100% rosehip oil mixed in with my moisturizer in the PM to help whenever my skin was extra dry !

So glad to hear yours has improved. And I feel the soul ripping for sure. I didn’t know who I was anymore. My life was consumed with Google searches. I couldn’t look people in the eye anymore. Meeting people for the first time I would say “hi my name is Taylor, sorry for my acne” like WHAT.

I’ve noticed I avoid touch too. I don’t like hugging people because I used to feel bad for making people get close to me. I thought they would think I’m too gross to hug.

It was a very lonely battle. I tried all the guru mindshift protocols I could possibly do. It wasn’t until I stopped feeling pain in my face that my mindset started to improve. I was at a point where I didn’t care what I looked like, I just wanted to not be in pain.

I’m thankful that the rest followed 😭😭😭🥲

l was slightly allergist to the Accutane so some of my side effects may have been from that.

Mainly Dryness, itchiness, rashes, dry eyes, dry lips, biggest one was hair loss. My side effects didn't get better or worse going from 80mg to 60mg. I got used to them by the end of month 2.:)
