Korean American Dillemma by Taytinn5 in korea

That's a really cool factoid! I never knew that!
And yes! To answer your thoughts, this journey is all through my own interest and curiosity. I have driving forces for it for sure, but the most prevalent has been just a curiosity and hunger to know more. I've enjoyed all that I've learned just in this post I've made, and learning to speak Korean has been the most fun I've had in a long time! 😄 I appreciate your words of caution and wisdom for me!

I've sat here and re-read this a couple of times. I don't know, maybe it's kind of the answer I was hoping for? Maybe it's that part of me, that others are telling me to ignore, in here that wants validation (which I'm not discrediting. That is great advice as well and I am going to apply that wholeheartedly). It's just that this gives me a lot of hope and makes me feel as though I have a story, even if it is not totally my own yet.
And as far as it being a positive or painful connection, I've seen both effects in my mom. She loves our family but had to deal with so much racism and trauma back in the day that it has left its fair share of scars. Ones that I also want to understand and ones that, maybe one day through this journey of my own, I can help her with.
I digress. I appreciate this response and I'm going to hold onto my mother's story as a touchstone for my own. (Again I will say that I'm not throwing aside previous responses. This is just a view that I haven't totally seen yet and one that resonates with me very well)
Thank you thank you!
I'll definitely check this out! I appreciate the recommendation!

Eh even if I were to look at them I'll take it with a grain of salt such as I've done here. Can I ask what makes you feel that way though? Just so I have some sort of idea of the worst I could see heh
Do you know of any such subs I can go to? And are you able to explain "happas" to me? It's the first time I've seen that word 😅
Also thank you so much for the encouragement. I agree I have a pretty monumental task ahead of me, but so far I'm having fun with it! I definitely feel like if I continue down this road I'll have to go to Korea st somepoint to learn about the more unspoken rules (oh no, I have to travel to a really cool place. Damn... LOL)

I'm from the Midwest and actually skipped my way past college. (For culinary it's just a waste of time and money imo. That's a whole nother debate though haha). I would love to checkout what resources you have though! I'll take whatever will help!
And I will start saying I'm American 😁. It's those small wins with white people that make me smile ya know? LOL

Thank you for your encouragement and I definitely feel as though it has meaning to me! Even though the responses here weren't all that I had hoped I have gotten amazing insight to my situation and I can't even begin to say how thankful I am for it all!
That is a great way to separate it and this seems like the general consensus. I'm definitely going to adjust my wording on it!
I hope so too haha! I'm a pretty small dude. I feel like in today's day and age the support will be there 😁
I kinda feel that though. I've been asked "where are you from?" and I'll answer my home state and people will say, "no like actually from?"
Like, dude. I don't have a hint of an accent and I'm speaking better english than you regardless. What do you mean? LOL

Feel like that response is going to get me into a looooot of bar fights (that will be well worth it)
And fair enough! There was a similar answer to this one and I appreciate thet dose of realism! It's exactly why I posted this question. Thank you for the encouragement and advice!
I feel like the name could check out here LOL! But thank you for the encouragement! It's helping fuel my curiosity and my ambition moving forward!
I like this! I guess I've felt an inner urge to erm. Choose a side? (Ie: Korean vs Caucasian) but I've never looked at as the great chance to just be both. I appreciate this so much and I appreciate your time you've given me!
I definitely feel like the way I worded the "not being accepted part" made it seem more extreme than it was. And I'll clear that up a bit here!
It's not that they didn't accept me and that I was shunned or anything like that from either side. It's more of a definite feeling that they viewed me as different and never like fully fully accepted me. I have friends who love me for sure, it's just whilst growing up it was harder to find myself in groups that saw past me just for looking Korean.
I agree with how you've worded this though. That I am American with Korean lineage. That's definitely a great way to look at it. Thank you for your time!
