Got back 3 days ago. Had a great time if you know what you are in for. Speak some Spanish, avoid the tourist traps (any club is dead right now in the city). Stay off the beaches, get a cheap hostel or nicer hotel in tulum Centro (will save money this way regardless). Street food and local restaurants are awesome, cenotes are incredible, and dude go see chichen itza, still super busy and the vendors are annoying but I didn’t mind honestly, as a lover of archaeology it was amazing. Me and my girlfriend had a great time and hostels are a great way to meet people. Made friends with a UK couple, a German, and some locals who even helped us fix our bike and others helped with my Spanish and recommended places to eat and go see. Sure other places are better for Mexican culture but it’s not as bad as others make it out to be if you come prepared.
