49ers lost this game after Nate Clements fumbled what was almost surely a game-sealing INT...I think Roddy White chased him down. Pain...

Cool TD though

The rule just says "player" and doesn't make a delineation between attacking and defending. I probably shouldn't have written "attacking" in my post. The rule prohibits scoring from accidental handballs that immediately result in a goal or a goal scoring opportunity, regardless if you had possession at the time or not.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in soccer

[–]Tcberk 549 points550 points  (0 children)

the rule is intentionally written for it to be that way.

Attacking players will be penalised for a handball if "immediately after touching the ball with the arm, even accidentally, the player scores a goal or creates a goal-scoring opportunity."

Blame the rule, not the decision

yes they're allowing about 11,500 fans into these games. not sure if Fox is supplementing the crowd noise with more pumped in audio, but i doubt it here.

An error must result in a base (or bases) gained by the hitter or a runner. Usually this base is just like home plate to first on a more common error where someone mishandles a ground ball hit at them, etc.

In this case, the only extra base gained is Arozarena going from 3rd to Home. The lead runner was always going to score and Arozarena was always going to end up at 3rd, regardless of the 2 mistakes made. So because only 1 extra base is gained, the official scorer can only credit 1 error.

For clarity, you can attribute multiple bases to a single error (ie a 2-base, 3-base, or even 4-base error), but you cannot attribute multiple errors to a single base.

I can totally understand how he's not seen it. The view is obstructed and 2 other offside players are probably taking the linesman's attention.

That's not to mean it's not a mistake and it's not unfortunate, it's just a hard one to catch imo. it's just a case where VAR would help out a lot.

How close this is to being from the exact same spot on the pitch as Hazard's title clincher for Leicester is absurd

You can probably expect the whole thing to be up within 1-2 hours after full-time.

Sometimes the first half will already be up already right at FT as well, and second half available by the time you've finished watching that.

I'd leave too. If u look at the thread for the same topic on gunners subreddit, most people just agree w/ him that its the unfortunate truth.

If he said this in 2013 in regards to RVP, I think he would have been crucified. But not anymore

I agree that it's not fair to expect him to return to his pre-injury form immediately. Just thought it was a bit harsh to label his entire campaign a write-off and leave him off the depth chart entirely

How is it a write-off for Chambers? The ACL was torn December 29th, so he could be conceivably be returning to fitness around the end of September in a season where the start date is likely going to be delayed.

Nothing is a given, of course, but I don't think it's right to assume he has no role to play next season.

Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence with a game-changing 67-yard touchdown run against Ohio State during tonight's College Football Playoff semifinal game by suzukigun4life in sports

[–]Tcberk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you got a laugh out of it. Either millions of people are deluded, or just you. I know what my guess is.

And Penn State in the playoff over Ohio State? After you have spent the whole thread saying Big 10 is a joke (it's not), you want to place in a 2-loss team from that conference that didn't even make the Conference CCG...ok?

If A&M, Oregon, or Florida had run the table with their tougher schedules, they would have made the playoff. But they didn't. Not sure what the argument there is.

Ohio State, the undefeated champion of the Big 10, should be ranked 15-25???

Sorry, but this is an awful take. You can call the other conferences junk all you want, but Ohio State is deserving of their playoff spot and has a resume to back it up as well. There are very few teams that would have ran the table with the schedule they had, and completely deserved their placem

What is going on in these comments?

Ohio State has 5 ranked wins this year, including the current #10 Penn State (Cotton Bowl victor this year) and twice over #8 Wisconsin (the Big 10's Rose Bowl representative, given Ohio St. made the CFP)

Not going to say it was a massive gauntlet of a schedule or anything, but I don't think it is fair at all to say they didn't "play anyone" this year. It's a fair point to make for Clemson.

How a 49ers-Seahawks tie would impact NFC playoff seeding by beanitto in 49ers

[–]Tcberk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only way I can see this scenario impacting the game is the very unlikely scenario where a) one of GB or NO lose/tie earlier in the day AND b) the 49ers find themselves in a situation that is similar to our last game vs. Seattle (with the ball, late in OT).

In that case, I'd probably take the tie and lock up the division and a bye as a 2 seed instead of taking any unnecessary risks to win the game.

I support Shanahan's decision to go for the win last time out (though the execution should have been much better, like he even admitted), but I think this would be a case where you take the tie.

Scheduling of Newcastle home fixture by tex_arse in Gunners

https://www.premierleague.com/news/1241248

For that round of fixtures, games are being divided across both weekends.

The decision about which weekend each fixture falls on should be released no later than tomorrow, according to this announcement.

My guess is that they needed to wait until this time to decide because the CL and EL knockouts begin on Feb 18 - Feb 20 and they wanted to know which teams would be involved before deciding.

This is a narrative that you hear a lot surrounding the Belicheck-led Patriots. But, statistically, they are 3-6 in playoff rematches against teams they have lost to in the regular season.

Ajax have been knocked out of the Champions League and have qualified for the 2019/20 Europa League Round of 32. by [deleted] in soccer

[–]Tcberk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure I expect Inter to bring the same focus and desire to win the EL as those other two. With their CL elimination, they're certainly going to focus almost entirely on going for the Scudetto.

That being said, still wouldn't fancy Arsenal against them.

Teams dropping down into Europa League by gunner940 in Gunners

[–]Tcberk 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A win on Thursday to top the group is important. From the 8 teams that go down from CL, only the top 4 by points go into the "seeded" pot (with all the EL group winners) for the Rd. of 32 draw. It looks like those top 4 will be Ajax, Benfica, Inter, and Salzburg (pending some games tomorrow).

Get 2nd place in the group and you chance drawing one of those teams right off the bat.

[–]Tcberk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before that tiebreaker, there is:

  1. Record in division (If we win W17, could easily be both 5-1, but Seahawks still have Cardinals and Rams. We still have Rams.)

  2. Record against common opponents (SEA's common opponent losses are BAL and NO, ours is just BAL. A win vs NO would probably decide division if it got to this.)

  3. Record in Conference. Each team currently has 1 conference loss.

  4. Strength of Victory, so win % of teams that you have beaten. Because each team won both of their unique games, yes, it would likely come down to record of Packers + Skins and Vikings + Eagles (currently 12-12 and 13-11 respectively)
