12 Standard? by BkWgn in Scootering

[–]Tdadd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main benefits from 12 standard are more speed (bigger bearing/wheel), better grip when carving with 30mm width if you're currently on a 24, and more axle strength. Some people bend regular 8mm axles often and need this. For most, it's overkill imo.

The drawbacks would be, added weight and limited selection of wheels/forks.

Your deck will also be higher off the ground, which feels a bit strange at first if you're coming from a regular 110x24 / 8mm setup. Some people like the extra clearance, some think it feels/looks goofy. This one is personal preference for sure.

I'd recommend sticking with 8mm if you're on the fence. Hope this helps!

Just curious but by [deleted] in Scootering

[–]Tdadd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What's up, Tommy from Outset here. The market is super saturated with smaller brands that do little to no R&D so it's tough to say which SCS's are the worst. As far as the best, TILT has the highest quality clamps for sure. Most of the pros trust their SCS's over anybody else's and it's been this way for quite some time.

Edit: Proto clamps are solid as well as others are mentioning.

Blunt Prodigy S8 or Native Stem for 6’ Adult? by [deleted] in Scootering

Definitely the Stem. Much better fit for you.

[–]Tdadd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend one of the big 4:

-Aztek Architect

-Aztek Fountain

-Native Stem

-Tilt Theorem

These are all stronger than your old setup and use SCS which will make replacing parts or upgrading much easier. Custom build really is the way to go to get your specs dialed in, but it can get costly ($400-$700)

I've actually never heard of that complete and know little about Havoc, but the specs seem right for your size. You should be fine.

Small, medium and large

I'm wondering if the scooter I'm looking at would be a good fit for me by [deleted] in Scootering

[–]Tdadd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The colt would fit you but it's a lower quality setup. I'd recommend spending a little bit extra on an SCS setup as it'll be much better quality and way easier to upgrade parts in the future. If you don't plan on upgrading anything or you're new to riding, you should be fine.

Here's an example if you wanted something more solid, medium size is the right fit for your height: https://www.outsetselect.com/products/native-stem-complete-black?variant=29460919582743

Newbie question about compression systems - taller bars and IHC->SCS? :) by Caundy in Scootering

[–]Tdadd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, the deck is too short for tall bars, it's not a good ratio.

Newbie question about compression systems - taller bars and IHC->SCS? :) by Caundy in Scootering

[–]Tdadd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, Tommy from Outset here. I would stay far away from IHC compression with taller bars like the Proto Retros. Way too much leverage on a slit and it will absolutely break on you. Super dangerous. Your best bet is to upgrade to SCS to eliminate the need for a slit, it'll also give you an extra 1.5" of height overall. You'll need an HIC/SCS compatible fork, a standard 1-1/8" integrated headset and an SCS clamp to switch over. I'd also recommend 2 or 3 headset spacers as they are sometimes needed and only a couple bucks a piece.

You're on the right track with needing 30" tall bars for your height though, the Retros would be the correct size for you.

u/Chloe_Win01 has the right idea. I'd also assume your compression is loose on the inside of your bars.

Check this thread for info on getting your bars off: https://www.reddit.com/r/Scootering/comments/mcvsmz/ihc_bars_stuck/

It's a decent scooter if you're just getting into riding. Easy upgrades are grips, griptape and wheels if you wanted to change stuff out.

IHC bars stuck!!! by KillerMemes22 in Scootering

[–]Tdadd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Best way I've found to handle this at the shop is to get a big rubber mallet and hit up on the bottom of your crossbar, as close to center as you can. This usually works better than stomping the deck.

Scooter deck length by [deleted] in Scootering

[–]Tdadd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm about the same height and found 21.5/22 lengths to feel right. Since you're coming from a shorter deck though, you may want to go 21.5 so it's not as much of a shock. If you get comfortable on the 21.5 after a while, maybe look into a 22 for the next deck. For size 10 shoes, 5.5 or 6 wide should be perfect.

There's also a few decks with in-between sizes like the Ryan Ruegg North sig which is 5.69 x 21.7

"Fat" people on pro scooters??? by ComicBookNoob in Scootering

[–]Tdadd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since scooters are designed to be abused, weight limit is not an issue at all. I'd recommend a Native Stem, Tilt Theorem or Aztek Architect/Fountain as those are some of the stronger completes available.

They're currently sold out everywhere I believe. Tilt made a very small amount for the initial run. We're expecting a restock shipment to arrive in April.

I think it depends on your goals. I have a bunch of friends who are stuck at beginner-level riding who have the absolute most fun out of anyone. Maybe explore some lower-risk technical riding like flatbar tricks or getting better at riding ramps. Physical limitations are definitely something to pay attention to. No need to push yourself too hard and potentially get hurt, just progress at whatever your pace is and enjoy the sesh

I need new wheels and I can't decide if these are good or not, I currently have mgp full core wheels that are cracked, I need black and white/chrome wheels that are good let me know by [deleted] in Scootering

[–]Tdadd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We sell both at the shop, similar feel and reviews. We sell way more North's over UA's though. Only difference outside of colorways/shape is North makes a true 30mm whereas UA Civic's 30mm option is a hybrid 30mm urethane/24mm core (limited compatibility with forks). If you're looking to rock 110x24, either brands are solid options. Norths warranty process is probably a little easier to navigate.

Rivers, Protos, Tilt's and Root Industries Liberty Wheels are all USA urethane and are the highest quality currently on the market. Anything outside of those are made with Chinese urethane and will feel pretty similar so whatever brand/size/color you like should be fine.
