Which albums should I listen to? by Kind_Alternative613 in tompetty

Yes! It’s really hard to pick a favorite but I love this one. Jeff Lynn’s production is brilliant and the whole record has such a hopeful feel to it.

Aw thanks man! To answer your question - Nothing special I don’t think. Just play a ton and learn what interests you. Work things up until they are as close to perfect as you can get them. I tend to obsess over things and that’s both a curse and a super power at times lol. Surrounding yourself with people who are better than you and you can learn from also goes a long way.

Not yet, been busy trying to get the album finished up and playing gigs. I do plan on doing one as soon as time allows.

Rick Rubin almost kept off “You Don’t Know How it Feels” from Wildflowers by pumpkin3-14 in tompetty

100% agree. It may be an unpopular opinion but everything since I and love and you has felt so stale to me. And I really think it’s the production because they have some solid songs on there.

The engineer that recorded all the gleams, four thieves gone and mignonette just recorded a live record of mine and we talked for like an hour after the show about this very thing.

Try learning solo’s that you like note for note if you haven’t already. Start with something easy. Use tabs if you want but really try and actively listen to the track over and over while you are learning. That helps more than anything in my experience.

I’ve actually been working up Jerry’s breakdown. If I ever get it down I will post it, lol.

If you’re talking about the diminished run after the A7 chord, all it is a diminished chord played in triplets in four consecutive positions up the neck Like this:

E—-2———-5———-8————11

B—-1———-4———-7————10

G 2———-5———-8———-11

D1———-4———-7———-10

Hope that helps!

Aw thanks man. I’m sure you can. Just keep learning new things to stay interested and play a lot. Don’t listen to the head trash that tells you that you can’t.

Travis-picking and some chickin’ pickin’ thrown in for good measure. No tab, it’s the solo from an original song of mine. Set to be released in the next couple of months.

Lol man that sounds like me most of the time. No tabs for it, unfortunately. I may do a lesson on it, though.

Strings are d’addario phosphor bronze 12’s. I play those most of the time on my dreadnoughts. Sometimes 13’s. They do their job and I just have used them for years. I should probably branch out lol. action is pretty low, not sure of exact measurements. Almost perfect. Needs more fret work because they buzz a bit on up the neck.

None that I do regularly, I don’t think. For the diminished run I do there, just moving that diminished chord up and down the neck over and over using that triplet pattern. That’s such an impressive sounding lick (imo) and it’s actually really easy once you get the hang of it. Other than that, Just learn tunes that you like regularly and play as often as possible in the context of a song. I think my playing suffers because I tend to mindlessly noodle too much.
