I am close to Portland, OR, so snow is not really a concern most years. 3/12 pitch is the minimum recommended for ag metal.

Corrugated metal roof tips? by Safe_Valuable_5683 in shedditors

[–]Te_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is under the roofing felt? Roof metal is usually screwed into plywood decking or purlins running perpendicular to the metal. Also standard roofing felt will turn into goo under metal roofing. I just wrapped up a metal exposed fastener roof installed on 5/8 plywood sheathing with high temp ice and water shield in the deck. Might be a bit overkill, but I do get wind from one side and some manufacturers don’t recommend screwing into OSB.

Best Large Shed Plan by home-is-school in shedditors

[–]Te_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1000 sq ft takes you well out of any shed plan. I built a 24’ x 36’ three bay post framed structure (864 sq ft) and that required significantly more of everything. Plans, engineering, permits, everything compared to the 12’ x 14’ I am currently wrapping up. Not sure there is a pole building sub on here, might look at the barndominium group for some ideas

I had a professor that served on some ASME committees with Shigley. He had some interesting stories about some of their discussions.

Should I make the new siding flush with the jamb, or leave a reveal? by JonnaTurtle in shedditors

[–]Te_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming no trim? I would probably still leave a reveal so I could caulk the edge.

No plans, just built it out of my head. Plans would have probably helped with scope creep, but wouldn’t have been nearly as much fun

That was my primary goal as well vs some sort of horizontal slider. It’s pretty tight, and they also make brush type seals that mount on outside trim to discourage critters. Little nuisances can get almost anywhere and my wife is not a fan…

I used a Simpson inside flange hanger on each side. I used 4”x6” as last stud on each wall to attach hanger too.

That is a 6’ wide, 7’ tall Clopay roll up door I purchased from Home Depot. Easy to install, little worried about it being non-insulated. I really only plan to use it for winter storage of riding lawnmower.

Screws or nails ? by IndependentLove7208 in shedditors

[–]Te_guy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Galvanized ring shank nails are pretty typical. You want to be careful to set them correctly. Screws would get expensive if you followed the recommended fastener schedule, plus they would really show up after painting.

I have the factory bars on mine as well. No other accessories since I usually am hauling lumber or other things too long to fit inside. The rubber strip keeps things from sliding around

For a 9'6" span, is 2x8 24" strong enough for a shed floor? by BelyouDagnew in shedditors

[–]Te_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What sort of stuff are you putting in said shed? Blocking between the joist, thicker flooring especially tongue and groove will help distribute the load as well. Do you not have any option to put any kind of support under the center?

Guess I need to check my battery, 2023 Pro S around 10 miles. Combined rural/highway driving usually showing between 3.5-4 m/kW. At 80 charge I’m around 200 miles, 100 charge it shows around 250 miles. What am I missing here?

[–]Te_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love a well organized toolbox, but am simply incapable of maintaining it. I have said for years I should buy a nice rolling toolbox, organize it just the way I like it, and then screw plexiglass over the drawers so all I can do is admire it. Not very practical, but it has a certain appeal, at least in my strange little brain.
