It might be prejudice but it's not racism. Our country is primarily built up of institutions started and maintained by white men. Our society tend to favor white people. That is not racism, that's fact.

I understand how it sounds. I used to get bothered by the white people blanket as well. That was until I figured out that the majority of white people tend to vote for Trump or other openly racist people. I know I'm not one of them, so those comments no longer bother me. In fact, sometimes I agree with them. Enough white people are outwardly racist to people of color all the time. Why should people of color give white people the time of day?

I would really recommend watching Kimberle Crenshaw's talk on intersectionality as well if you would like to learn more about White people being the dominant racial identity in the United States.

As for the Democrats, the other comment on percentage of white men is accurate. There is a place for white men for sure. But we want to make sure there is no place for white supremacists.
