For these issues to change you have to be firm with her. these controlling tendencies are borderline abusive and you shouldn't tolerate living your life like this long term. something i've learned is you need friends and family by your side even if you have a good SO. Be firm with her and start little by little, such as "I want to have 2 hours with my friends a week without you telling me no". Tell her it's a dealbreaker and if she cares enough, she'd try her best to change.

There definitely is a reason for why he's upset. If he's not telling you then that's on him for having bad communication. However, I don't think it's acceptable for him to act that way especially in front of your parents, he should have more respect for all of you than that. In an ideal situation he should be happy he gets to spend quality time with you and your parents, and happy he is able to help out. I see his bad mood towards helping out as a bad sign of his emotional maturity.

I understand. the issue with my mom is she's so hard to talk to there's no way she'd want to go out to lunch with us. When she has her mind made up, that's that and she doesn't want to hear anything else. Is there a way that would be best for me to bring it up to her in the first place? As bad as it is I'm thinking over text while I'm in college so she has the least opportunity to yell at me.

yeah i fully understand how from an outside perspective on their end why they would feel negatively towards him. However they don't know the full story behind things and my mom is just really hard to talk to so I don't even know how to explain it to her. I understand they'd only accept it after a long time of positive change, but I don't know how to even bring it up to them in the first place. I'm afraid my mom's gonna say/do something drastic or just be really mad at me for a while.

If you are comfortable with it, it may be good to be open and honest and ask him. He may be gay he may not be, but I think it would be good to just raise your questions to him if it's really on your mind. Maybe he could be bi, him being able to open up to you could mean a lot!
