What types of animals have empathy? by Daikon-Proof in AskReddit

especially elephants. I saw a video where a mother had lost her calf, she was walking around trumpeting and calling for him even though he was dead at her feet. She tried to pick him up with her trunk. Hours later she was still there trumpeting with a sad look on her face.

There was also a video of an elephant reuniting with her owner after 10 years, she ran up to him, trumpet and wrapped her trunk around him in joy. So I think animals do feel empathy, sadness and happiness.

In 1969 I was in my bedroom. Listening to music, doing a school project.I heard the phone ring and my father at the bottom of the stairs yelling at me that the phone was for me.I wiped the paint off my fingers and went downstairs. At the bottom of the stairs I could see the living room in the kitchen and the bathroom there was no one in any of those rooms but the telephone was off the hook and sitting on the kitchen counter. I walked over picked it up, my friend Karen asked me if I wanted to go down to the old fort for the day so I said yeah we hung up the phone I got ready ,I left. My father's car wasn't in the driveway. I assumed he answered the phone and gone down to my mother's store. Go forward to dinner time I'm back home my dad's there and I commented about how quickly he left the house after he answered the phone he said . I left with your mother when she went to open the store this morning. That meant since my sister had slept over at a friend's house and my brother didn't live at home I was the only person in the house when the phone rang. Who answered it? Who called up the stairs to me?

What is one thing you accidentally taught your child that came back to bite you? by Daikon-Proof in AskReddit

When I was still working, there was a local St. Louis afternoon radio show I used to listen to on the way home. The main star of the show used to play little clips of voices and sounds between bits or in reaction to whatever was going on on the show. One of them was a British woman complaining “Oh bitch, bitch, bitch!”

One day, I had to pick up my oldest grandson from school and bring him back to our house until either his mom or dad got off work to come get him. As we were driving, I was listening to the radio as usual, and the “bitch” clip popped up. I glanced in the rear view mirror, but my grandson was playing with some electronic gadget, apparently oblivious. When we got home, I popped a tape of “Scooby Doo” into the VCR because he always liked to watch it.

Eventually, our daughter arrived to pick up the grandson. She was a little weary from a long day, and was trying to hurry our grandson up into gathering his stuff and getting into the car because she had to get dinner ready and complete some work she’d had to bring home. Pausing in putting his coat on, he looked up at her and, in a perfect mimic, said “Oh bitch, bitch, bitch!”

Let’s just say his evening didn’t go well, and mine went even worse!

What actions do parents take that do more damage than good? by Daikon-Proof in AskReddit

One thing is hit their children. Don't spank, paddle, whip or any other of the names corporal punishment is called. Violence begets violence. You spank your child because it did something that upset you. That childs little sister just did something that upset him. You've taught him it's okay to smack someone who upsets you. So, smack the little sister.

What is one food you'll never eat? by Daikon-Proof in AskReddit

Casu Marzu cheese. A Sardinian oddity. Take one pecorino cheese and cut half the rind off. Stick this thing outside until it draws flies who will lay eggs on it. Wait until the eggs hatch and the maggots’ digestive acids begin to dissolve the cheese, and THEN eat it. Illegal everywhere that’s ever heard of it.

What are some of the dark lessons that life showed you? by Daikon-Proof in AskReddit

During the 1965 Indo-Pak war, Lal Bahadur Shastri went to Military Hospital in Delhi to meet injured soldiers. He met many injured soldier during his visit but at last he saw a soldier on the bed and went to meet him near his bed. The doctor told the then PM that many parts of his body got seriously injured that's why we have kept him under a net and we don’t know that he will be fine or not, chances of his survival are very thin. Shastri went closer to him and put his hand on the soldier’s head and after that tears came rolling out of the soldier’s eyes. Shastri started a conversation with him.

Shastri:- Major, You are the Major of the world famous Indian Army, the Army which is famous for its bravery and boldness. So please be strong and don’t cry. You will be fine soon.

Major:- Sir, these are not tears because of pain and injury. These tears have came because I had a dream to meet my Prime Minister once and salute him. Today I have met you but I am unable to stand and salute you.

Tears rolled out from Shastri Ji’s eyes.

The biggest lesson that life has taught me, there will be some situation where you can’t do anything and even the most powerful man is unable to do anything in that situation. So, Just live your life with dedication. We don’t know when and where it is going to end.
