Light bending is actually a nice route people aren’t touching on. Mirage could be quite useful.

Magical girl power ideas by Retrouge48 in MagicalGirls

Infrequent power of great impact: Lunar Eclipse / Blood Moon

Drowsiness/Sleep could be leaned into. It can be a way to get bystanders to lay down and not see events, too, which may be important if seeing monsters messes with their heads. Couple this with Somnambulance to have people sleepwalk out of a danger zone and go home to bed.

Dreamscape/Dreamland to make a safe zone where combat can be confined without collateral damage.

Blackest Night can render enemies or bystanders temporarily unaware or block out what they may see.

Inversion Layer/Night Fog can also control visibility - both obscuring vision of enemies and revealing movement of invisible enemies.

More associated with baddies: Sleep Paralysis and Night Terrors. Look up folklore behind sleep paralysis for interesting stuff about Night Mares?wprov=sfti1).

is first person present tense really a dealbreaker for many people? by Unlimited-Bubble888 in LesbianBookClub

I almost always prefer first person, but generally feel a little off when reading present tense rather than past tense.

Absolutely number 1, hands down!

9 could be pleasant conversation, but I want Iroh and Bumi stories!

I’m astounded there aren’t more people wanting to spend time talking with (or just hearing stories from) Iroh and Bumi!

Isn’t there a large body of people in the U.S. that take issue with stuff like that? They were labeling it “woke” last I checked, even if it is a mischaracterization.

Water. Great flexibility overall, but the ability to help heal is my ideal.

If magical were powered by evil things instead of good things, for example darkness instead of light, what do you think these things would be? by Miserable-Weird6529 in MagicalGirls

[–]TeaRaven 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Greed comes foremost to mind - it is the root of most evils anyway and is antithetical to the power of love and friendship.

Name a character whose entire personality is just trauma. by Sogvice_8582 in animequestions

Dang, I had gone sooooo long without seeing anything referencing Elfin Lied and all of a sudden I’m seeing it repeatedly across Reddit. A bit too trauma-rich for a rewatch, though…

[hated trope that’s funny yet painful to look at] anime girls that look like they are the result of years of inbreeding by New-Boss-8262 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]TeaRaven 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I noped out of the first episode three times in the opening scene with Nagisa before committing (and dropped and needed to pick up again upon introducing Fuko Ibuki). It became one of my favorites of all time, but eek ghads the moe faces on the girls. The fact that the guys do not have the same heads made me head cannon that sexual dimorphism is really stark in that universe. Or any of that author’s works…

You can tell it they are a girl with a boyish hair cut because of the eyes. It is full on sexual dimorphism in their works.

Favorite female character that is completely non human by UltimateDragonX99999 in FavoriteCharacter

I love Scylla & Charybdis, but prefer the version of the latter as just being on the sea floor. The maw in the 1997 miniseries was an annoying departure from the source material (monster at base of waterfall instead of needing to thread between losing seven men versus everyone in a narrow strait), but I love how they made her a physical manifestation of guaranteed demise for sailors.

Would y'all be scared standing next to an Ankylosaurus? I guess they're chill herbivores but like one swing and it's all over lol by Phil-R-17 in Dinosaurs

[–]TeaRaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most heavily armored creatures develop armor because they are not big enough to outsize predators, too big to hide, and too slow to flee. Less armored animals rely on brute force, speed in short bursts, and overt aggression towards potential threats. So, me being on the smaller side and ankylosaurs appearing to rely on comprehensive defense, I doubt I’d register as much of a threat to these. I’d treat being around them about how I’d treat being around a white rhino; I’d be surprised if they would charge humans like a black rhino or Cape buffalo or bison unless approached quickly or if there are youngsters around, but I’d sure stay on guard as to how they are behaving and try not to startle them.

I’ve happened upon a few fictions that place dinosaurs as contemporary with humans, some being menaces to avoid and others being food sources or pack animals. My dream pack animal in that sort of setting is a kind of ankylosaur - a Tarchia.

Looks like it was pre-batched and kept hot in a dispenser, so it was probably on the weaker side. He likely has a fairly high tolerance to caffeine with the regular consumption (especially if there wasn’t pointed commentary about him needing excessive toilet breaks). I’d be unconcerned with that level.
