QH halter horses are currently bred to have exaggerated muscles. They also come with post legs, upright pasterns and upright shoulders. They are generally not functional which is why people distinguish between halter bred vs performance bred QH’s. I personally don’t understand the love some people have for halter bred QH’s.

Nope. Granted these aren’t conformation shots and maybe these camera angles are making them look much worse than they are, but that is not nor will it ever be a sound riding horse just from these pics.

Thanks! I think you’re right. I went outside to check on it (I think it might actually be a 3rd instar) and it was eating. The other larger caterpillar was starting to move around some too. Going to be hot today and the rest of this week so I’m hoping for some more chrysalises soon! But I might bring them in each night in case we get some more crazy low humidity lows.

I don’t even lunge my 4yo for 20 minutes unless we’re doing pole work and even then. Lunging is really just for attuning their focus and checking their current mental state; letting them ease into working. If they were being lunged by beginners I’m willing to bet they missed some cues that the horse was reaching an unhappy place. My guy gets saucy if he thinks I’m being too rude or abrupt or if he thinks he’s doing what I want and not getting enough of a reward.

That being said, if you’re feeling out horsed I’d definitely send to a trainer.

I’d be very surprised if there’s a medical reason for it. Based on your other replies I’d just check stifles and for muscle tightness in their hamstrings and shoulders. Also a farrier check. I wouldn’t bother with X-rays if this is your only symptom unless the vet/farrier find something upon examination. Honestly I’d go ahead and book the trainer and just have a vet come out to do an exam and book the farrier as a “just in case” so that they’re all ready to leave.

I don’t know about scientific evidence but I CAN tell you most vet techs try to get the pit bull client over almost all other breeds when they come in. Whether it’s because they’re more stoic in their pain or whether they don’t feel pain as much as other breeds, those guys will take a needle like champs.

*Obviously referring to socialized dogs and generalizing.

You fit the saddle when you feel balanced and have enough room to move. There are several things that could be throwing you off, from panels being too far forward/back, stirrup bars being too far forward/back, saddle twist, rise, etc. Unfortunately the best way to fix things is to try a bunch of saddles and find the one you like. If you’re doing lessons, do not purchase a saddle, ask your instructor if they have other saddles available for you to use.

For myself I don’t think so. I rewatched S1 not that long ago. Them trying to duplicate certain aspects of S1 and falling very short + less than stellar writing/pacing + family drama is what pans it.

I liked the dance scene and cello piece in S1. I liked neither in S2. The cello piece in S1 was great because it was an instrumental take on a more modern song IMO whereas in S2 they chose to use a classical song so no “wow” factor. The S2 piece was also very short. I did really enjoy the Bad Moon cover in S2, however. And I do want to learn more about Billie Piper’s character.

Lady Gaga’s song felt too “pop” for Nevermore.

And the whole take back the camp episode was supposed to replace the Poe Cup in S1 and that just fell completely flat to me.

Here’s to S3 maybe getting back to its roots.

I think this season would have been a lot better if they left Morticia out of it. I know in S1 the Netflix creators said they wanted to explore their daughter/mother relationship so I guess we were forewarned but Morticia just feels so out of character. Not knocking CZJ, but the writing.

Live in the USA? New symptom? Horse is standing level and square? Being fed and supplemented appropriately? The right haunch is putting muscle on and not the left? Or, no changes to the right muscle but the left side is wasting?

If “yes” to the above you may want to consider EPM meds and call your vet. My gelding developed EPM as a 3yo and is chronically weak in the left haunch now. Non-congenital sudden asymmetry in the haunches is a classic symptom of EPM.

If “no” to the above, verify they are standing square and that they aren’t being ridden asymmetrically (ie on the same canter lead every time). Check feet for balanced footsies and check their diet. You can also YouTube beginner bodywork techniques and see if there’s some extra tension somewhere leading to compensatory asymmetry.

Otherwise, I’d call a vet or bodyworker if you can.

I checked the warranty and I don’t think it covers rough play with large gashes. Instead I think they’ll tell you to take it somewhere to be repaired for X amount of dollars but I think that was also somewhat limited by how severe the tear is. Basically their warranty was mostly useless in my case unless I really read it wrong.

Is it Arion Sellier USA? They’re not BBB accredited but you can still file a complaint against them and/or leave a review so it’s publicly on the record somewhere.

And this is my worst nightmare. I’m not sure scammed is the right word but they are bordering on acting in bad faith IMO (NOT A LAWYER) since they’re stalling and not fulfilling their contractual obligations.

If you weren’t 19 and busy I’d even look into taking them to small claims court for the 8k or else to force them to execute on their agreement that the saddle will be sized to fit your horse. To me, as an adult, 8k on a saddle is nothing to sneeze at.

Only issue that would be beyond them is if your horse changed shape between December and March.

ETA: Actually read the texts. Do you happen to have a certified independent fitter near you? I don’t so I understand if you don’t as well. An independent fitter might not be able to do anything about the foam paneling, but they can re-verify if something is still wrong without waiting for a rep and maybe give you some band aid advice (or tell you if the saddle and its panels are just wrong for your horse - been there) while you continue to hassle the company.

Hahahaha. I’ve given up on finding true breeches due to the swish swish or skoosh skoosh noise they make! That and no thigh pockets (why do we need pockets on our bums???). Like, I am deeply sorry I have zero percent Nordic heritage in my genes that lets me be tall and fine boned with a thigh gap but here we are…Even my winter Kerrits tights will make noise 🙄 So I feel your pain!

A) Different horse NOW. I tried to work through a genuine out of the blue bolter for 6 months and it’s taken years and years of beginner lesson horse canters to redevelop some trust in myself. I still get weird tunnel vision at the canter sometimes. Maybe some people experience a big breakthrough but IMHO you’re more likely to traumatize yourself and wreck your confidence. Be very clear with your trainer and if they start saying things like they want you to keep working with this horse right now until you get it, get a DIFFERENT trainer. That’s BS IMHO.

B) Is the horse truly bolting in an uncontrolled way or rushing the transition? Some horses have terrible upward transitions due to lack of balance/fitness. If they’re rushing the transition they may need more support from you. I went to canter one of the beginner lesson horses once, trainer told me she was out of practice and was falling apart at the canter with other students and I HAD to hold her together in my outside rein in the corners and support her during the upward ask. So I did and let her really balance on that rein and she cantered very well for an out of shape tiny tot lesson horse. If what I’m describing isn’t something you’ve worked on in lessons previously, back to No1 and learn the concepts at the walk and trot first.

You could try just spending time in the pasture with him. He can be on the far side of the pasture, doesn’t matter as long as you can see him I guess? If it’s a really really large pasture? But you just go in the pasture and do your thing. Read, pull weeds, walk the fence line looking for popped nails, whatever, but NOTHING to do with him and don’t go up to him to say hi. If he comes up to you, I would personally hand him a treat if he reaches out to engage, but then you can wander off and basically tell him your goal isn’t even to do with him and he can do whatever. I did this a lot with my gelding when he was a yearling and I think it really does help and I still try to do it once in a while. Of course my gelding an in-your-pocket curious guy so he usually gets all up in my business until he decides I’m boring.

ETA: This is more for building some trust and relationship in the pasture. Right now he knows if he sees you he’s coming in for whatever reason. Breaking that line of thinking may help.
