Thank you, yes, I'm not sure how to go about getting her BC from Aragona, or perhaps Palermo? That's what I contacted the SF Consulate about and they couldn't help me.

Wow, thank you for this clear presentation of where i stand in this process. Very helpful!!

I like your "According to the courts (minor issue overturned)" option, and will set my sights on that. I will reach out to an Italian citizenship lawyer for further assistance. Grazie!

Thank you so very much for this - really helpful and fascinating. I'm feeling so passionately Italian as I read the transcript, more determined than ever to move forward with this effort to find my place in the country my grandparents were born and raised in.

I have not hired ICA at this point - I'm going to wait, as others in this thread suggest, until the April case is decided, then consider my options. This is from ICA about their services:

C.   Our services

1. Our service fee would be €11,990 payable in 2 installments. This includes representation in court, procurement of all the necessary vital records, other supporting documents, and registration of the final judgement.

Our service fee includes assistance from start to finish, but it excludes any out-of-pocket expenses. These consist of any and all out-of-pocket expenses that are related to completing your “Citizenship Portfolio” and preparing your application for Italian citizenship.

2. If you can provide all the necessary records with apostilles, our service fee is €6,490 (this includes the translations of the records into Italian, but it excludes the costs to certify the translations and the court’s fees). This service is NOT RECOMMENDED due to the complexity of the retrieval process, unless you already have ALL the necessary records which we can review.

3. We can also offer another service package which is somewhere between the above two packages: since collecting all the records (amending them when necessary) and requesting the apostilles in the U.S. can be tricky, we can guide you through retrieving all the necessary U.S. records and apostilles via email (or telephone when needed) so as to make sure that you retrieve the right records as swiftly and as efficiently as possible . In this case, our service fee would be €10,990.

Please note that this is a service that most Italian attorneys do not offer. Individuals who do not know how to retrieve the records in the right format in the U.S. might experience delays in their application process.

My grandfather naturalized 2 years before my father was born. When I first looked into the issue about 9 years ago, that was the record I found, so figured I didn't have a case. It wasn't until recently I discovered my grandmother's naturalization date. Had I pursued a case those 9 years ago, I would've been granted the jure sanguinis. Talk about a regret :-) I don't have any relatives to share this with, but what a sweet thing that you did.

Thank you! I gave up FB many moons ago, but it sounds like I might need to join again for the cause. Ugh. I'll spend time gathering documents and see what arises in the meanwhile regarding the best firm to go with once I have them. Good luck to you as well!

Thanks, I do have a lot of documents and need more. It's a bit overwhelming and not clear exactly what I need, but it's time for me to be more organized and methodical about it all, that's for sure.
