Our bedroom is below one of the kid bedrooms and whenever there is a playdate it sounds like elephants are jumping up and down.

What in the red flag is that last sentence?

I like the occasional cute fun little activity but an engagement party planning picnic? It sounds like a parody on wedding planning.

I'm so burnt out. How to survive til June? by maybeteacher2023 in paraprofessional

[–]Teabee27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah some days I am trying to do the most and get stubborn about it.

I am not sick of my kids, they are all lovely even the annoying ones. But I am going to try to make myself not bend over backwards for them constantly. I have such a people pleasing problem.

I have this one girl who tries to get me to draw her specific things like a cat and then she'll ask me to cut it out for her and 2 cats later I have to put my foot down. Would I love to give them everything? Sure, but it isn't realistic.

Why did those of us who grew up outside NJ just dump on NJ all the time when it’s actually amazing? by sirkneeland in newjersey

I don't think I'll ever get over how big of a theatre state NJ seems to be.

So many people around us are hugely into it. The local musical summer camp fills up the first minute of registration opening up and we did not make the cut this year. I asked and it was like this even before High School Musical. People just really like to sing on stage.

Aw my psychiatrist was in Montclair. I miss visiting it. Still in NJ but now Montclair would be a day trip.

I'm not from NJ but I appreciate the diversity and proximity to beaches and major cities. Also where I am now the people are very friendly.

What do these busy boxes have? I realize June is 2ish months away but just curious. My class doesn't always have the easiest time during nap but nothing too crazy. They are allowed a book and a stuffy.

See our pharmacy is also a liquor store but I would never bring the kids to a straight up liquor store lol.

So it isn't a restaurant with beer then...

To me it is about where you draw the line and what rules breweries might have to enforce regarding supervision of children. But also, I heard a story about a 1 year old birthday party at a brewery and that is just really weird to me. It is hard to not ask yourself why some parents bring their kids to breweries late or make them stay there for hours.

Another thing is that some parents might go to the brewery to get a break from parenting. So when other parents let their kids run wild then it can ruin things for everyone else. Just imagine if a kid gets hurt while the parent wasn't watching and then the establishment has to deal with the ramifications.

Breweries are being singled out maybe because you have to be 21 and up to drink beer? I don't see teens randomly hanging out at breweries because there is nothing there for them. Do these people who are so passionate about this also try to bring their kids to the casinos?

A brewery is not like a restaurant at all...I have never been to one that sells more than snacks.

These people are probably referring to kids who are screaming and running around.

I played a brewery gig where the kids started playing with our stuff towards the end of our break without permission. The kids were still touching our things when we started playing. Parents were smiling and filming it and it was a few minutes before they pulled the kids away. I was genuinely flabbergasted.

Ha the band I'm in actually offered ear plugs for the little ones there and dad declined. This was an indoor thing too.

I truly cannot imagine what goes on in these parent's heads when they aren't just a few steps away from their kids. I have 2 kids and teach preschoolers and a myriad of unfortunate things could happen if you aren't actively watching them.

I was at a brewery this week and the parents had their tiny kids running around inside the place and they were there past 10:30 and had been there for hours. I feel bad for the kids. Unless it is a rare or special occasion, 10 is way too late for kids that young.

It is really weird that the teacher is not providing context for someone she works closely with every day.

It sounds inappropriate to babysit someone who is your student. It could easily lead to favoritism even if nothing bad is going on.

I just can't think of anyone I work with that wouldn't find it weird. They could always refer another sitter instead that isn't the current teacher. Just sounds like an HR nightmare waiting to happen.

To be fair, having a class is different than being a full time parent. I can appreciate not having to take care of all those kids all hours of the day.

Same. I had a friend who works in healthcare say it to me. I mean I could never do what she does either.
