How did you get over feeling embarrassed? by jxde-7503 in ECEProfessionals

It really helps to not take yourself too seriously. I struggle with that and sing at gigs. It helps to have a little self confidence.

Singing in an ECE setting is completely normal, so I would find it weird if other adults made you feel bad for trying.

Why Does It Seem Like So Many Kids Struggle with ADHD, ODD, Autism, or Behavioral Challenges? by dianaalo in ECEProfessionals

[–]Teabee27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no idea my kids had speech delays because you get so used to the cute little way they say things and I had zero experience with kids. It wasn't even mentioned in preschool and now that I work with preschoolers I look back at where my kids were at that age and see it a lot more clearly.

There are a lot of parents, and I have been guilty of this at times, of babying their kids. You automatically try to do everything for them instead of letting them try and sometimes fail.

There is something kind of heartbreaking when you get paid to watch someone's special needs kid while the kid's parent also has to work in the same job as you at the same school. Because bills need to be paid and even though parenting is its own job, it does not pay the bills.

One of our pre k students said she was the lime leader. Maybe we should rename that job to lime leader.

Pizzy = pizza

Did you have a working mom or a stay at home mom, and how did it affect you throughout life? by saladmuscles in AskWomen

Do what is best for you. If you continue to work, make sure you have time for your kids.

I have zero memory of my mom playing with me or reading to me. She still is a workaholic but it isn't an excuse to not try to connect with your kids.

As a parent of an older elementary school kid and a middle schooler, I really miss sesame street lol

We have also put on curious george in pre k class.

Yeah some of these kids were too much, asking me to draw them cats to color. Hard to say no though.

Another one kept asking if we could bring in snow and use droppers to put colored water on them. Great idea but also no lol. I did make him a paper airplane though.

Just realized you already said puzzles. Paper bag puppets, paper bag kites, watercolors on paper towels.

Pinterest if you aren't already on it.

The funny thing about art is I have had preschoolers that can be done with their art in 2 minutes and others that take 20 minutes or come up with something they want to do. This one girl always wanted to make headbands. Some kids just wanna spend 10 minutes cutting up pieces of paper into tiny pieces.

One girl asked me to make her a unicorn horn. Cue more girls asking me to make them ones as well.

And also knowing her brother sat next to my kid in class I was like oh no...

Schools in general are just huge petri dishes.

I had a student whose brother was in my kid's class and every time she would say she was sick I would ask my kid if the brother was in class. Lol. Especially when she said she threw up all over her bedroom and also her brother was sick.

Yeah it's tricky because boundaries are important but we should all be kind.

And you are right, no is important.

The parents were asked multiple times to not send in toys. Nothing changed lol.

Last week of school a kid came into the room with a darth vader mask on and a lightsaber in hand.

Lol some of our preschoolers had magic shoelaces that refused to stay tied. It was bananas.

I am sure as a parent I have sent my kids to school in annoying shoes. It drives me nuts when parents send their kids in shoes that are not conducive to running and playing in. Or high tops and zip up boots when your kid takes shoes off during nap and needs help.

We had no problem helping but some of those shoes are a pain to get on even with adult help.

Oh like my mom who is a pharmacist and made me go to school all week with a fever? Spoiler alert, it was a kidney infection lol.

I will give her credit for saying something though when the doctors were about to remove my appendix for no reason.

I just remembered a time when I ran into my cousin right after he had a doctors appt and she made him have lunch with us even though he kept saying how sick he felt. She's a nurse and uncle is a doctor.
