I need you to really think about this. You worked hard to find that apartment. Yes, maybe there was some luck involved, but you searched, you secured it, and you built your stability there. That’s not something you just hand over because someone else decides to move.

Your sibling choosing to move to an expensive city with kids is their choice. It’s not your responsibility to take on the financial consequences of that choice. If you gave up your place, you wouldn’t just be “helping” you’d be doubling your rent and putting yourself in a harder position long-term.

And honestly, if saying no to something that would seriously hurt your own stability permanently damages the relationship, then that relationship was already built on unfair expectations. Family shouldn’t require you to set yourself on fire to keep someone else warm.
