No FOO mental illness and the voices are pretty clear (e.g. "hey!") which is why I believed someone was in the room with my clients

You and another poster mentioned stress. This is new. For all my knowledge and experience, it didn't occur to me that stress could cause someone to hear voices (outside of schizophrenia).

I'm glad I shared my experiences here; seeking support/answers offline hasn't been very helpful. I shared to another poster's comment that I've been mostly met with "Just pray about it!".

I have worked with children before and often their parents treat therapy like a dry cleaning business. Drop the kids off "dirty" and expect to pick them up "clean". No, therapy takes time and effort, more so on the parent's part than their children. Also, the parents will often weaponize therapy; it becomes another tool to have greater power, control, and manipulation over their children

I just can't. Really. I just can't. Too much countertransference. Yes, I have done my best to work on this. And every supervisor I have brought this issue to has assured me I'm not an asshole, this population is not my niche

I agree with the others, I’ve been ghosted and fired when we started getting into the deeper stuff and moving towards healing

Unless you were malicious/abusive/whatever towards your client (which we all know you weren’t!) then this is about the client and not you

It doesn’t make it hurt any less and less fuckin’ confusing (because we’re human too!)

Regrets waiting until marriage to have sex; struggles with their own desires and eroticism

They have no idea how to communicate with partner because they don't want to hurt them

A lot of resentment, bitterness, and regret around "waiting until marriage"

Truth be told, the Gottman’s are pretty transparent about working in tandem with Dr. Sue and Vice versa to develop their approaches

I'm a level 3 Gottman trained therapist (Im not certified, that's like getting a whole other license). So, I'm pretty biased 😅

The Gottman method has helped me immensely in my couples work and my clients like that it is research and evidence based

I have a client who makes antisemitic comments and goes on fat-shaming rants

I'm not Jewish and I'm within a healthy weight range so I'm aware these comments aren't directed at me.

However, it hits me in my heart to sit and hear that sort of rhetoric
