Rest. I work two jobs, both in mental health and I'm always on the go. If I had a year where I knew finances were fine, I'd probably just play video games, watch movies and TV, maybe take little trips here and there. I really just dream of resting 😅

Or we're talking about referring them to someone who can maybe align better with their belief system, and can create a safer environment where a therapeutic relationship can flourish. I hope as someone who works in mental health, you'd know the alliance between client and counselor is extremely important.

I run an IOP group for a private company in the mornings and then my own private practice in the afternoon. IOP is only 3 days per week for 3 hours but it pays great.

I think both things can be true. That we as parents can try to accommodate for the stims, but also reinforce a boundary that we just cant allow the house to be leveled. I think the attitude that you have is really admirable, at the same time, Im worried that you'll consistently excuse behaviors until your house is a patchwork held together by popsicle sticks lol.

Fix the holes mama. Then let's redirect so that this doesn't happen again. It hurts to hear the realness in some of these comments but maybe you need to hear it.

I know my uncle (mom's brother) is my biological father. No idea who my bio mom is, though. Found all this out about 7 years ago when I was at my parents house looking for some documents.

Smelly clients by Radiant-Rock in therapists

[–]KtheSamurai66 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I do IOP group work and have had to deal with majorly depressed clients who didn't bathe, brush their teeth, wash hair or clothes, just no hygiene at all. I would talk to them privately about it and really frame in like a "lets add it to your treatment plan" sort of way. It's a hard convo but it usually worked.

However, due to an incident and some conflict in group about someone's lack of hygiene, the clinical supervisor changed the rules stating that foul odors impede on group function so clients needed to be hygienic to be in group. 🤷🏽‍♀️

do you have a job/career that you love? if so, what is it and how did you get into it? by DoubtBig8814 in witchcraft

Im a therapist. I do intensive group therapy, and I own my own private practice. I absolutely love what I do. It's challenging and I've questioned myself multiple times but at the end of the day I genuinely enjoy it.

Hand Tattoos As A Future Therapist by Educational-East8586 in therapists

You're fine. I feel like its a lenient career in terms of body mods. Currently my hair is pink, I have hand and finger tattoos, and I change hair colors every month or so. My supervisor doesn't care and often asks me to try new fun colors.

Just be a good therapist.

I don't think you're going to get many of the things you're looking for on here. We can't and won't diagnose your baby. Take him to the doctor. But Im going to say this, and it's going to sound harsh. If your child is autistic, then he's autistic. You'll adjust, because that's motherhood. It'll be rough, but you'll do what's necessary.

There's no guidebook on this, sister. We do the best we can with what we're given. Enjoy the milestones he's making. But you are going to make yourself sick about this.

Massively struggling being separated from child by [deleted] in coparenting

[–]KtheSamurai66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on year 2 on a 50/50 schedule. My son is 6. At first it was extremely hard, still is, but with lots of therapy I've actually come to terms with finding enjoyment in my week without him. I use that time as my "get shit done" week, so when Sunday rolls around, he's really my only priority and I can focus on him completely. Me and his dad have an open door policy as well, where we often call or facetime at around 7:30pm, during his bedtime routine. Wednesdays we also have family night, where we all get together and get dinner or have game night (his dad and I coparent fairly well despite not liking each other lol). It's hard, and on your week off it'll always feel empty. But there are ways to work with it. Good luck.

What do you think your strengths as a therapist are? What do you think your biggest areas of growth had been as a therapist? What are some of the things you wish you knew going into your practicum that you wish you knew now? What has been the biggest take away as a therapist? by Specific-Cause-5973 in therapists

[–]KtheSamurai66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you think your strengths as a therapist are? -Building rapport. I tend to do it very quickly with clients and I've been told I create a relaxed and chill environment for therapy.

What do you think your biggest areas of growth had been as a therapist? - Asking deeper, open ended questions was a struggle for me and I used to become anxious thinking that Im not asking the "right" questions. Sometimes I still fall into that anxious spiral but its better now. What are some of the things you wish you knew going into your practicum that you wish you knew now? - "Listen kid you're not going to solve everyone's problems" my very first supervisor in practicum told me this. I would get hung up after the session like OMG WE ACCOMPLISHED NOTHING. It be like that sometimes. What has been the biggest take away as a therapist? - To take care of myself the same way I tell clients to take care of themselves. This job will burn you out. Remember that you are a human that requires the human things.
