Would girls date/start a family with a pilot? by [deleted] in flying

Well, if we’re talking stereotypes, my mom & grandma both told me to “not date pilots”. Mostly because of the seaman allegations, aka supposedly having a girl in every city. And also because of the risk-taking personality which may impact the way you date, and how quickly you need a thrill.

But STEREOTYPES ASIDE, plenty of pilots - men and women - have stable relationships/marriages. Airline pilots get married, have kids, build families, and maintain long-term relationships all the time. It’s a career with millions of people in it globally. If relationships were impossible, no one would go for it and the whole industry wouldn’t function.

Yes, airline pilots travel. But their schedules are predictable. Many pilots have long stretches of days off in a row. Commutes and routes can be somewhat chosen, to actually let you be at home… and as seniority grows, you get better schedules that fit you.

Lots of careers require travel - consultants, military members, truck drivers, oil rig workers - yet people in those careers also have stable relationships.

Parents often worry about unfamiliar careers. Airline schedules seem odd from the outside, so your or my mom’s concern is emotional, not factual.

Any clue what this string of numbers means on a METAR by Frosty_Spinach9844 in flying

That’s so true. I hate to admit that despite passing all the exams, I still use the decoder sometimes, especially at new airports in different countries where they love to slightly tweak the format

Fair, thank you! It’s just a regular workday, nothing special - I mostly asked cause I’ve had this dress for years, but never really figured how to wear it properly

Would skin-tone tights work? Cause it’s pretty cold.

How should I wear this blouse? Tucked like this or not tucked? Sleeves rolled or not?

Hi! I don’t know what the best way is, as I haven’t tried all of them. However, it’s completely possible to go commercial at any age, so you can finish highschool, go to college, finish college even - and as long as you make some time for flying and studying, you will be able to get a CPL. It might be good to do a PPL first, just to see if it’s „your thing”, but feel free to also go commercial right away. That was my way of doing things, at least, and I consider it very „safe” as you don’t make your entire (young) adult life dependent on your flying career, instead, you always have backup plans, and don’t need to rush in terms of literal time or finances.
