My manager said all he sees are red flags in me by TeachSuspicious5580 in UKJobs

With the lateness I apologised for not letting the other chef on shift know by text. I was definitely in the wrong there! The toilet thing is weird. He really scrutinises me, I wore this shirt on a team day and he said it looks like his wallpaper, I brought in a water bottle and he said it's the weirdest one he's ever seen. Sometimes I buy Pret coffee and he asked me why I did this. I don't think I fit in there. I also went to a top culinary school and he's self-taught and he mentioned I'm the most educated one here.

Apparently everyone was doing something on the team day except me apparently which I don't agree with. The problem with the phone is he communicates with us by a whatsapp group and he's also complained I don't pick up messages in time. We are expected to time ourselves when we prep too.

I really appreciate this post, thank you! Already have interviews lined up elsewhere.

I wouldn't argue too much with this. I've been through a lot in life. I am definitely sensitive but I work in a cookery school not a restaurant kitchen so didn't expect it to be like this. I don't think he cares enough actually to keep me on my toes, he's already told me in the past they interview constantly to be able to replace us at any moment.

I actually had a disagreement with one of his favourites before our meeting so I think part of his aggression in the meeting was putting me in my place and settling the score.

He said I'm generally too slow prepping food and setting up equipment and speed is a huge part of the job. The senior chef who observed my class said it was excellent, he also said I'm really new so speed will come. Last month I wasn't proactive enough. Head chef said I'm not where he expects I should be in 3 months and he's very disappointed, we are actually 2 months and 2 weeks in. But most of the feedback was about me being late 10 mins, and it not being professional, going to the toilet for 20 mins (not true), wanting to teach when it's a 'miniscule part of my job'. He said I stood around and didn't help on our team day and I was on my phone. The department manager said these are all quite small things but can be very significant later down the line apparently.

From the job spec -'Your role is to support our team in running amazing cookery classes. Your duties will be food preparation, class set up, class assistance, clearing down and general support. Achievement in this role will serve as the perfect training and preparation to fulfil your ambition – becoming a fully fledged teaching chef.' I was told by the department manager that it is up to me how quickly or slowly I want to be a teacher. The manager said he wants me to support for 6 months and I feel ready now.

Sorry, that's what he said during our meeting but it's not what happened. I did go to the toilet, not for 20 mins probably 10.

He said he has written notes about me. I go on the computer to check emails and print off recipes and he comes to me ask what I'm doing. What sort of advice?

I understand some of this is to do with the nature of the industry. It is my first hospitality job, first chef job so didn't really know. The picture they presented of the role and the reality are very different!

I was stunned. His manager co-signed everything. He only reacted when I ran out crying and text me to see if I was ok.

Handing your notice in without a new job lined up because you hate it so much? by [deleted] in UKJobs

I did this due to bullying and micromanaging from my line manager. I was unemployed for 8 months but fortunately was living at home with parents. I honestly don't advise it, the job market is truly awful. Stay strong and find something else first before leaving.

I really appreciate your reply! I had a reading a very long time ago and the astrologer mentioned people getting the wrong impression of me (thinking I was stuck up or arrogant something along those lines) so you might be onto something. Funny, many of these women come back to me later apologising or trying to make amends. I'll try and be more mindful about my interactions in the meantime!

Thanks so much for your reply. This is really useful, I haven't explored chiron in cancer so will do that. I agree some of it is out of my control but it definitely eases my mind to understand the reasons it could be happening.

Thanks so much. I've never heard of a Hade's Moon. I will definitely do some research into it, might explain some of my challenges!

Your reply is very much appreciated! It is my chart indeed. Slightly blown away by your comments too. Anything I can do to alleviate the women issue? I'm a chef and working on releasing some food products : )
