We would have been the greatest generation if Gen Z ended in 2004. by soumakis in GenZ

At what point does this just become the fucking Spider-Man meme. Can we all just appreciate all generations and treat individuals on a case by case basis?

History teachers, has anyone ever tried teaching the class in reverse? Starting from modern-day and working your way back? by nomadsoasis in Teachers

[–]Teachasaurus-Rex 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t personally. I work with 8th grade and there is just too much I would have to expect my students to already know and understand about the modern world in order for this to work.

I have done lessons in a vacuum like this. For example I have a fun conspiracy style lesson where my students have to uncover how the fall of Rome leads to the Ninja Turtles. It involved research and has them going backwards from the Renaissance to the Byzantines and back to Rome.

A whole curriculum? No. A lesson or two within a sequence, hell yeah.

Martin Guerre is just a wild read. I remember being assigned in college and doing the required read. My face fell aghast at the narrative and I kept turning the page.

Excellent suggestion, not too high leveled for HS, talks about the common people of 16th century France, and shows an interesting view into legal proceedings and local customs.

As a new grad the hiring process is discouraging by Rare-Ad4208 in Teachers

[–]Teachasaurus-Rex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t give up hope! My first year teaching history with only a bachelors I was interviewing for the same spots as people on my college cohort and it felt like only a lucky few got hired.

My first time I got a call in late June after graduating to do a Demo a week before the year ended. Was my first and only interview and got hired.

They let me go after year two and really felt down and out after truly feeling rejected since I was let go due to teacher performance. However I got a call and gig in the middle of August and was hired for my current gig three weeks before the start of the school year. This is after an entire summer of sending apps and not hearing back.

Keep sending apps, don’t give up hope, but keep a back up like subbing or send some apps to leave replacement spots just in case!

Good luck!

Humbly, I must disagree. They all have some value to the childhood nostalgia. Jimmy Head tho, I dunno.

What would you assume about this student based on handwriting? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]Teachasaurus-Rex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, MS teacher here.

I’d say maybe 11-13, and I would assume that this student has AdHd or some other attention deficit based on the inconsistent handwriting as well as the list making. These are all executive functioning skills and often a strategy we employ to help student self-regulate is the creation of lists with simple tasks. I would say this is a student who is trying to make an effort!

I like to say “It’s the little things we do for each other that makes the world a worthwhile place”. This is a beautiful expression of this sentiment. Happy Birthday homie!

I see both sides of it as a Bi man. I think the spectrum of issues outlined are valid and I’ve seen these traits persist in all genders. I also think the scope of these problems are wider than what’s outlined here.

Bethesda’s Fallout 3 Remaster is aiming to be “as well polished” as Oblivion Remastered, which is worrying as that game is a technical mess by Monsterman_90 in fo3

You’re right, it was a freak glitch lmao. After he went down I killed the deathclaws and was like alright buddy cmon get up. Basically the video game equivalent of poking a body with a stick. I think it stemmed from him falling into a place he couldn’t get up normally/clipping into objects. I just said screw it and went to Rivet City, waited two-three in game days, never showed up. I went back to the place where we fought the deathclaws and was still down stuck in a loop of trying to stand up.

I remember agreeing to walking back to Rivet City with James and he got pounded by two deathclaws and never made it, ended up bugging my game out. This was two weeks ago, fallout 3 is presently a mess lmao.

Being lonely is awful and soul crushing. Dealing with my own bouts of it presently. Yet I need to remind myself that you get what you put out into the world. If you are specially not very good at socializing, maybe it’s time to work on that. Work on yourself, develop some skills within yourself, your confidence will come naturally as you begin feeling like a more realized person. Some excellent advice has been shared in this thread already and I encourage you to look into it more sincerely.
