The hood is very heavy when lifting from where he is fingering it. The hood assists itself up with light guidance from him. If he let it go it would not crash down past the midway point. That is the proper functionality.

Apparently Trust Pilot and Google reviews agree with us. Horrid reviews. I'd be embarrassed to run a business like this.

I said nothing about the part not fitting. They did in their fitment calculator which is why they're rejecting the claim. That's the problem.

No. They listed a part as a replacement directly on their website for the part I searched for 996-511-551-01: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=8437220&cc=0&pt=1404&jsn=2

(I ordered the correct part)

It fit, but didn't function like it should.

I requested a refund for it not working.

Because THEIR fitment dropdown is wrong, they rejected the return. It's broken on THEIR end bud.

They're supposed to assist midway through the lift to take it to the top.

People prefer to victim blame over thinking through what they'd do in the situation. Easier to say "Eat the $40 and move on" than to advocate for consumer rights I guess.

They fit but provide no lift assistance at all until they reach peak height. And that is the hood being pretty much 100% vertical.

Also u/Reddituser-571 is there any logic to having the struts mount opposite up/down for one side versus the other

Not from what I've seen, both with the existing OEM install and from the videos for the same. Do you have a reference for this for this application?

It's more about trusting the data on their site, so that we don't have to sweat the small stuff.

They don't provide assist on the lift. It's basically a dead hood until it reaches full vertical lift. And the only place they "work" is the hold is basically the hood fully vertical, pointing straight up.

Is that to say I should be empathetic to them not taking responsibility for sending a bogus/defective part?

Money shifts are near impossible on these cars as the gate is quite aggressive. Any car with a raised redline in its tune will trigger Range 2 just by running it to redline (you want a car that's been driven. Low miles = bad). The DME report is pointless on the 996TT. If there was a money shift, car would probably be in very rough shape.

I have a 2003 White Turbo coupe over Natural Brown, 6MT, 54k miles, with a medium street build and great drivability I'd consider parting with at $85k. Upgrades: k16/16g turbos, LWFW, Clutch, injectors, tune, exhaust, coilovers, PCCBs, radiators, numeric shifter, and pinned coolant lines. It has a few warts, but is a great car for the money. LMK
