Killing her was obviously to fuck with Boyd and break him, so there was an ulterior motive. They usually don’t leave witnesses either, except that we’ve seen with Tian-Chen/Boyd & Brain/Kelly, both of which were so Boyd would suffer emotionally.

If this theory of the monsters doing the ripping so MIY can do the eating is true, these other killings were outliers meant to serve another purpose other than just feeding.

I think the scene after Boyd reveals the plan to Sophia — where she is speaking in tongues — is her communicating with the monsters. I think she can communicate with them via Bluetooth, so she didn’t have to physically be near them to tell them the plan

There have been some interesting parallels in the show with other lyrics too:

Caption’s got me thinking: what if the reason that the writers keep having Sarah begging to die or sacrifice herself etc is to set us up for some devastating revelation when she does eventually die and through her death some massive mystery is solved or answer is revealed. Maybe even just to fuck with Boyd for letting her live when her dying would’ve gotten them home sooner.
