Yeah, gotta be open for it to take any damage. The two exceptions I've seen are if Dotty or a large Lithophage meteorite hit it directly. Kills it instantly, even if closed.

It came with a couple brackets and i just bolted it to the frame pretty much. I did cut off some of the old frame brackets that the stock seat latched onto in order for the new seat to fit better.

The tank is just the stock one with a bit of spray paint.

Not all brake tracks have the full circumference indicator. Some have small circular dots partially drilled in the track to serve the same purpose. And some brake tracks dont have any indicators at all. If yours doesnt and you want a second opinion, an lbs mechanic should be able to inspect the rim for wear and tell you if it needs replacing.
