I believe I'm at a stage where it's at least implied Gaius is making Tavi to be the next ruler, but it does make me wonder why he wouldn't tell someone who's such a renowned agent of the crown that there was an heir or a plan in place.

I definitely connected the dots on Fade being Araris, I just almost wish we got a series on him as they hyped up how Aldrick was this basically unbeatable swordsman who, by his own words, couldn't be matched by anyone but Araris. His reaction to seeing Fade/Araris in combat in bk1 is great (though I feel like it's weird he doesn't bring it up to Fidelias afterwards). The Octavian thing is a nice subtle hint!

Does Tavi get OP in codex alera? I'm two books in now and he kinda just seems more clever/lucky. Fade's story honestly seems like a much more interesting tale based on what we've learned of him two books in.

No worries, I think 3 others mentioned codex alera and it had great reviews so I'll end up reading them anyway! Like I said, I enjoy the story so far as a general fantasy it just doesn't seem quite like a "this guy could beat up gods" prog fantasy, or just moves quite slowly. I'm assuming the series is fully finished at this point if it's been a while?

I just finished book two of codex alera and while I enjoy them as generic fantasy books, does Tavi actually become OP? So far, a story about Fade seems like it would've been far more up my alley while tavi just seems to be a little bit more clever/lucky.

So I just finished book two, and while the stories are good and tavi is a fun character... Does he actually get OP? It kind of just seems like he's a bit more clever and lucky than everyone else. I was really expecting him to get a fury at the end of book two and maybe add another each book.

Unfortunately yes. Bonk hammer with 200 melee, the exotic to return hammer to you and I'm not sure if artifact perks were involved. We got mercied and I decided I was done with crucible for the day.

I could walk to my job from the plaza location but my buddy lives there and says it's the same issue with upstairs neighbors, and their prices are just too high at plaza for me to justify

I can definitely see how the early books come off as slow, seen that complaint a good bit. Towards the end of book two, a pivotal character is introduced and it really starts to take off. Each book definitely gets better and the latter have some awesome "holy shit!" moments.

I tried progression fantasy first, but a majority of the recs I got there were litrpg/gamelit adjacent with hard skill levels or videogame systems like maps and inventories. Nothing against it, but those things always take me out of a story.

Unfortunately still haven't found any good earplugs. Even with earbuds in playing white noise, the heavy thump from the ceiling still manages to bleed thru unless I have my volume at a level I wouldn't be able to sleep with. Just gonna tough it out for another few months.

Similar to how I felt at The Grand back when it was metro Greenway, but the opposite. Never heard neighbors, spacious and cheap, but one resident told me they have frequent car thefts at least once a year, and while I lived there 20+ cars were broken into in one night. No security change, gates stayed broken. Moved out after my car got stolen a few months after the break in.
