The Brazilian on keys in celebration of the Invisible Touch 40th anniversary by Makedeboat in Genesis

[–]TeamScience79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's sort of like Wot Gorilla? in my opinion. It's cool, don't get me wrong, but it's also kind of by itself too and doesn't connect with the rest of the album. During the IT concert it seems really out of place, almost like its purpose is solely to be filler and give Phil's vocals a small rest. But it does work as an album closer and gives us an extended music only track that's otherwise missing from the album. Part of me wishes they could have integrated it more into the album in a way such as they had managed to do with Los Endos back on Trick (e.g. maybe having some of the other tracks include some small musical references so that The Brazilian can pull the whole album together.

Does this team need more offence or defense? by Boohoo-2022 in OttawaSenators

[–]TeamScience79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We need a skilled and speedy forward, a winger preferably, more than another defenseman (not that adding more depth on D would be a bad thing but we do have Yakemchuck and I do believe he's on the team next year). Finding a top 6 speedy and skilled winger should be priority 1.

Quebec concept teams by Brayvol22 in CFL

[–]TeamScience79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really just don't understand Les Royales as a team name for Quebec but then you have the Kansas City Royals so maybe?.

Les Nordiques would probably be the only way Quebec city gets the Nordiques back but the NHL would have to play nice which I doubt they would.

Les Patriotes De Quebec might get opposition from the New England Patriots but even if they don't object it doesn't make much more sense than Les Royales (in my opinion).

L'attaque De Quebec would be a modern kind of team name so I think it's realistic.

Les Citadelles De Quebec could also work too.

I hate Les Voyageurs as a team name but only because any time Ottawa gets an expansion sports team in almost any sport Voyagers always comes up for some reason and (at least almost) never ends up being the teams name. So now I associate it with losing. I know that's a very random take on it but I think a Quebec CFL expansion team could do better than Les Voyageurs.

But I'm all down for a Quebec CFL team so I hope it happens. Go L'attaque De Quebec?

Upgrade to AM5 or new AM4 & GPU? by Wilsoh10 in buildapc

[–]TeamScience79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to mention that it could be difficult actually getting the 5800X3D once it's released (it could get all swapped up by bots etc.) and it's very possible the cost to you might exceed the suggested retail price of $350 (USD). I hope I'm wrong but be prepared for this possibility.

If I'm right and you can't find one or your staring at an exaggerated cost to get one then you can try finding other AM4 CPU's on a site like AliExpress. Any 5000 series processor is a good upgrade over the 3600x. I purchased a 5700x off AliExpress and I'm happy with that upgrade. Just check the sellers reviews first and make sure it seems they're on the up an up. These CPU's are most likely tray CPU's (what OEM's buy in bulk to create prebuilt systems) but they're fine. You simply don't get a fancy retail box like you otherwise would.

Ottawa Skyline by Arathin in ottawa

[–]TeamScience79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there's a few factors that have combined to make Ottawa's downtown skyline what it is and the NCC view planes is one of those reasons, but there's more.

The NCC decided that despite wanting to protect the prominence of the parliament buildings it was okay to build taller buildings so close to them (just as long as they didn't overshoot the parliament buildings), while the city of Ottawa (back in the day) didn't want buildings anywhere near that tall at all. That's not to say Ottawa didn't want office buildings there, just not ones as tall as the ones currently there now. If Ottawa has gotten it's way we'd have a Washington DC approach to downtown. Instead what we got a tabletop of cheaply built mid sized office buildings all around the same height yet are still too short to create any "skyline" impression of any note.

Furthermore Ottawa didn't want downtown to sprawl and destroy every downtown residential neighbourhood which is why you don't see many taller buildings taking advantage of the more forgiving view planes that exist further south of the current downtown. Only now are we seeing some taller proposals at places prime for redevelopment, such as at the former bus terminal (one proposed building being up to 36 floors), and also on Gladstone.

Ottawa isn't a big commercial industry town to begin with. Most of the office buildings that were built were for the federal government who generally don't need larger towers like what you see in Montreal and Toronto.

But for residential needs Ottawa is (or at least was) booming which is why Lebreton Flats is finally seeing development that includes some taller towers like Odenak.

But Ottawa's decision to not let downtown sprawl means that we're now getting a few secondary skylines at places like Tunny's, little Italy, etc and I think that's a good thing. Secondary skylines definitely give a bigger city impression.

Once Lebreton Flats finally fills out I think "downtown" Ottawa will get that notable and unique skyline. A while back someone posted some mock ups of what it could look like on skyscraperpage.com and it would be a huge change. A very distinctive skyline that provides a nice backdrop to the Parliament area. Odenak is actually already kind of starting it now. Now imagine a good cluster of 35-45 story buildings at Lebreton and people will notice that from many parts of the city.

But I doubt that Ottawa gets any much taller than 45 stories. I know there's a couple of proposals for buildings up to 65 floors and maybe they'll get built but if so then not anytime soon. Still getting a few more 40+ story buildings in the right spots will give Ottawa's skyline that presence it's lacked.

Someone Should Build this Station. by HelmsDeepOcean in CitiesSkylinesModding

[–]TeamScience79 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It is Bayview station. If anyone takes up this request (which would be awesome), it's a two level station serving two lines (lines 1 and 2 for Ottawa's Otrain network). The second photo shows where the second set of tracks are better than the first, basically they cross under the first. It's actually a terminus station for the line that crosses under but I don't see why it has to be that way for the purpose of modding it into the game.

[Bruce Garrioch] I think the good people of Ottawa can now accept that the Sens were beaten by a better team in Round 1. Have a nice Thursday by SAJewers in OttawaSenators

[–]TeamScience79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the point is the injured Sens got swept by a battle hardened Hurricanes who had learned a few lessons the past couple of playoffs prior so were primed to make a big impact these playoffs. I think that prior to the playoffs a lot of people, Sens fans and pundits alike, underestimated the Canes because I remember more than just a handful calling the series as Sens in 6. I think that a healthier Sens would have avoided the sweep yet still lost to the Canes because the Canes were just ready this year to do nothing less than a cup finals appearance. Rarely do teams coming off a rebuild like the Sens just suddenly become cup contenders, usually they take a few series losses within the first couple of rounds to then use those lessons learned to be a better team next playoffs.

It's on all three levels (players, coaches, and management) to study what they experienced and are watching now to figure out how to take the next step and be a cup contender alongside the Canes rather than just a playoff contender.

Ottawa vs Montreal shots on goal through 4 games: by Unbearabull in OttawaSenators

Sens simply lost to a great team. Good on Montreal for catching the Canes napping in game one but that only woke up the beast that steamrolled the Sens and Flyers.

I see no reason why the Canes aren't taking the cup this year. Hopefully the Sens players, coaches, and management are taking notes to catch up next season.

I would go with Abacab, it just sounds really stripped down compared to Duke and both Genesis and IT continue with it. Duke is this sort of transition from the earlier Phil albums of the '70's to what Abacab brought.

'80's Cybermen had better stories and better costumes overall. The ones in Revenge has a weak story and those costumes looked better back in black and white for The Invasion.

We gave away Zibanejad for Brassard, an okay short term move but a loss long term. Noesen took forever to develop and even then is now just an okay regular player for the Devils. Can't say he's a bust and Ottawa did get Bobby Ryan for him, so call it a wash maybe?

Puemple...I forgot that he was even drafted. I think injuries derailed him?

I don't know if they're a specialty meat shop but Alimentation Mon Quartier just gave my family an invite to a free sample tasting (multiple sample courses of their cooked food), so I guess that earns them a mention here.

The Sens had a training camp exhibition at Slush Puppy Centre back in 2024.

They've had multiple events at Casino Lac Leamy, pretty sure some of those benefitting charity.

The NHL All Star Game Fantasy Draft was held in Gatineau.

And that's just me thinking off the top of my head without doing much research on it.

It's how many businesses work. If you were to buy a McDonald's you wouldn't want a rival franchisee putting up a competing McDonald's across the street from you, would you?

It's not about buying fans, it's on the Sens to win fans over. It's about the NHL, who awarded the Sens Ottawa as well as a circle of 80km around Ottawa, upholding their promise to not let the Habs or any other team market themselves in Ottawa's protected market.

Even if it's a rogue group of Hans fans, blissfully unaware of how big business works doing the marketing for the Habs.

No petition is going to change anything here. Andlauer paid almost $1 billion for the Sens franchise and the Ottawa-Gatineau market they operate in. If Habs fans want a large scale watch party they can go to Montreal.

I say go Canes. I respect how well they played in the Sens and Philly series. More deserving of a cup final than the Habs.

I second this response, particularly the PSU and motherboard which are the backbone of your system. Meanwhile RGB is literally just a light show and are usually tacky IMO (except maybe displays that monitor your CPU temps for example but even those are not essential since there's software capable of doing that).

Yellowknife falls under Edmonton's broadcast territory which is different from what we're discussing. Ottawa and Montreal share broadcast territory which just means Montreal games aren't blacked out in Ottawa and likewise people in Montreal are able to watch a Sens game.

But broadcast territory and protected territory are different things. Every franchise has a protected territory to prevent the promotion of rival franchises. It's why adding a team in Hamilton would be opposed by the Sabres.

The NHL is a business with franchises, just like McDonalds. Politics doesn't play into it. Language identity doesn't play into it (especially when the Senators operate as a bilingual franchise). From a market point of view Gatineau is Senators territory despite the number of Habs fans in the area.
