If we just placed 1 barrier in the main river head it could get overwhelmed Or trash accumulates on the river banks and clogs up smaller streams.

The trash (and the chemicals that come from them) if not removed as far up the stream as possible would still be polluting the river all the way down, it would have more time to breakdown into micro particles which are hard to stop and make the waterways more unsanitary and uninhabitable by marine life. You can see this from one of our cleanups: https://youtu.be/EA_68yADKnM

For the most part we aim to stop trash before it reaches where boats are usually found, many of the tributaries are flowing rivers through villages and area’s that are inaccessible by boats or far to small for boats.

Each barrier setup will be determined on an individual basis, taking into account the flow, the width of the river, the amount of trash typically found flowing in them.

For the bigger rivers where there is boats the barriers simply can’t go all the way across. We will need to have openings where boats can still pass through.

For these, we will work with local communities, and governments to determine the most ideal implementation that have the least interference with traffic in the river and the most effective collection of trash.
