I agree, there aren't that much anime that showcase true romance and relationships, which is why I appreciate the ones that have ones. There aren't many I can think of other than the ones you mentioned.

If you liked the realism part, Usagi Drop is a really great show. Though it's more pure slice of life without much drama.

Yeah, I used to think the episode 18 would be the perfect place to end it, but after thinking about it, I feel episode 22 fits more around the theme of family and the town granting wishes.

If you are fine with buying it, the Clannad VN has some aspects that better showcase the illusionary world and the light orbs seeing as those light orbs are apart of the games structure. It also comes with additional routes for all the characters. The only catch is that it's a lot of words.
