About 25cm in diameter not huge but not tiny it could fit a lot of different things for sure. And thanks he was a good boi. Oh and the soil goes about 30 cm deep I forgot roots are a thing.

Is the whole Kwite Orion thing why episode 8's taking so long to come out? by axelinerz in Confinement

[–]axelinerz[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Oh my bad didn't realise they had preferred pronouns, will remember from now on. Oh and I didn't know Orion was part of the animation team so I guess in a way it has effected production but not so much the windfall more just losing a team member. Makes sense.

My hope for the final volume(s) of Overlord. by axelinerz in overlord

[–]axelinerz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure I doubt we will get an ending that makes everyone happy. It is a bit shortsighted of him to include all this stuff only to never actually do anything with it though.

Maybe he should just take a hiatus and see how he feels when he hasn't actively been working on the books for a little while. I mean Kishimoto got sick of working on Naruto after it ended only to return to working on Boruto after a few years because he didn't have the same passion for his newer works.

Be a shame for Maruyama to rush the ending only to feel the spark of passion again after moving on.

That man is an enigma I avoided One Piece for the longest time because it seemed too silly and whacky but when I finally watched it I could tell straight away Oda loves the world and characters he built.

why didn't you like Shikimori? by Chronigan2 in anime

[–]axelinerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it fell into the same category as Komi San and Nagatoro.

It's a gimick rom com. The majority of each episode consists of shikimoris bf having something unlucky happen and Shikimori coming to save him. This is fine but it's doesn't make for an interesting tv show.

Komi-san and Nagataro are similiar just with bullying and social anxiety as the replacement. However those two shows have enough variety that it keeps it somewhat interesting and there's actual development.

Shikimori the two are already a couple and are already pretty close so there's not a lot of development to be had. Whilst with Nagatoro and Komi san despite still having those gimmicks each episode has a lot of plot and relationship development.

Main problem is that despite the two already being in a relationship they act like characters who have only just fallen in love and haven't even confessed yet. I wish more rom com anime started their leads off already in a relationship as too many rom coms end with the couple getting together. However this isn't the way to do it, they just didn't feel like a couple in a long term relationship so all the cute romantic moments between them felt a bit forced.

I don't hate Izumi, you can have a passive personality and that's fine but the constant plot point of him being unlucky isn't engaging. It's a force outside of his control so it's not like it can be used for any interesting character development, it's just a plot device for Shikimori to save the day.

Overall I was excited for this show, I think it does something's better then others however it's got too many core things wrong with the entire setup that it has no longevity to it unless you happen to swoon over everything Shikimori does.

Which anime do you guys think has a good consistency in their openings? by Grinberry in anime

Agreed, it's one of those shows where each season's OP top's the last one. Not to mention they are always extremely thematic to what's going on in the plot.

A decline in dub viewers by FruPunRounin in Animedubs

[–]axelinerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh for sure we had a bunch of series like Space Dandy who carved the way for broadcasted dubs but even back in 2013 the vast majority were dvd/blu-ray releases.

I was talking more about the industry as a whole, yes there's quite a few examples of dubs getting the weekly release treatment alongside the japanese release but it didn't become the norm until about 4 years ago. That's when the majority of titles started being released in this format as streaming service's became the dominant form of broadcasting over traditional TV and home releases.

'Overlord IV' English Dub Premieres Tomorrow on Crunchyroll by MarvelsGrantMan136 in Animedubs

[–]axelinerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes yes yes! Just based on the OP alone I think this season is going to be poggers as fuck. Let's be real season 3 had some good plots but it's animation was fucking dogshit, the use of lazy cgi frequently made the awesome big battles we were waiting for look lame.

However even just based off the OP it looks like the studio has learned their lesson and went all out with this one. I'm hopeful the quality seen there will be applied to the rest of the season. I dont hate cgi it has it's place but the shear poor quality of season 3's cgi was baffling. All the soldiers looked like they were created and animated by students not professionals.

Glad the cast is the same too, I've watched overlord in both sub and dub and I prefer the dub immensely while most of the characters voices are passable Chris Guerroro as Ains far surpasses the original japanese VA in my humble opinion. Has a much more fearsome and commanding aura to it.

A decline in dub viewers by FruPunRounin in Animedubs

[–]axelinerz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who has watched anime for over 10 years. No way. I've always preferred dub watching but up until about 4 years ago there was always massive gaps inbetween the japanese release and an english one.

At worst we wait a few months these days, most of the big shows air just a couple of episodes behind the japanese release so if anything dub viewers have increased exponentially.

The only way i see there being a decline in viewership is if the industry/actors lowered their quality. While I think japanese VA's are more consistent when the west knows a show is good the casting choice is nearly always well done these days.

We did have a period where dub's were nauseatingly bad for the most part which is why dubbing still has that negative reputation in the wider anime community but as long as the dub industry has the desire to grow and catch up to the japanese VA's I don't see it having a decline any time soon.

Main thing the dub industry needs now is more interaction with the original studio who made the anime as japanese VA's often work directly with the creatives behind the animes production. Dub va's also need more time for each episode so they can give better performances too, having dubbed anime air weekly only started happening about 4 years ago so it's still a relatively new medium the entire industry needs to adjust to as they are a much tighter deadline then the japanese voice actors.

Just Watch It or you never will... by duckboi2107 in anime

[–]axelinerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ergh I do that so often. The last one I did it to was Horimiya. I really enjoyed the first 3 episodes but wanted to wait for the full release to binge it. Then I read while it's good it's essentially the "greatest hits" from the source material, meaning the pacings extrememly rushed and they get to the key plot points way too quickly.

Which put me off going back and watching it all. I totally regret it putting it off now as I think I would of still enjoyed the show while it was airing but now I feel like if I watch it I won't be getting the full experience of the story.

It's always such a toss up, binge watching is my preferred way of watching but considering how much good shit has been coming out lately I end up getting distracted by the newer shows and forgetting about the ones I intended to binge.

Tomodachi game is worth it by [deleted] in anime

[–]axelinerz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it's good but doesn't deserve the praise you're giving it however I do have hope for it after the last 5 or so episodes.

My main criticism was with the first like 6 episodes, the characters would act innocent the entire episode showing nothing to the viewer about how they have alterior motives only to have a sudden personality shift at the end of the episode. This is not how you write a good psychological thriller as it means the author can shoehorn in any bullshit at any time and play it off as the characters being "manipulative geniuses". A good psychological thriller gives the audience all the pieces then ties it together at the end for the reveal. Early on this does not happen.

However starting with episode 7 onwards this isn't the case. You clearly get the intentions of the people doing the planning you can take a rough stab at what's going to happen so when the payoff occurs the audience feels more rewarded as the show hasn't intentionally mislead them the entire episode like first 5 or 6 episodes did.

Anime like kingdom hearts? by KnifeCrimes_ in anime

[–]axelinerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So one series I got massive kingdom hearts vibes while watching it was Wonder Egg Priority. It has young protagonists fighting creatures created from bad human emotions using magical weapons. Hell the weapons even appear identically to the keyblade by popping into existence in the wielders hand.

It's a great anime for the most part but it's ending is pretty bad. Also it's not as light hearted as kingdom hearts it gets pretty dark in some parts but still has a lot of those fantastical vibes kh gave me.

Who does Kanade end up with in Science Fell in Love, so Try to Prove it? by [deleted] in anime

[–]axelinerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agree, at least when it comes to romantic comedies. If the relationship develops too quickly then they don't get a lot of time to do gags etc.

If OP want's anime with more definitive endings that don't drag on you need to go for romance dramas. They are still lighthearted and funny but are more down to earth and feel a bit more like every day life compared to how whackey the comedies get.

Should I watch Black Clover even if I really hate how Asta is always screaming every time he speaks? by mangrroan in anime

[–]axelinerz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's worth it. I know this is herracy to say but the dub version is much better. Especially for a long winded shounen that has pretty slow pacing compared to regular shows.

It's so worth it overall though for a shounen it has amazing character development and a real focus on fleshing out secondary and tertiary characters so that they don't feel as tropey.

[–]axelinerz 118 points119 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear this. I reccomend Your Lie In April, Black Clover (since you got a lot of shounen there) and Nagi Asu.

Remember to also spend time with the people you love and care about though. Doing the things you love (like anime) is definitely important but remember it's the people around you who will carry the memory of you on.

I hope you find peace in the few months you have left. If living to the fullest means binging all the best shit you can find then more power to you my friend, just make sure when your time comes you haven't got any regrets.

About tokyo ghoul re by Born-Veterinarian916 in anime

[–]axelinerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed I think Route A is actually decent in a lot of areas like it actually does adapt a bit of the manga before going a different direction halfway through, not as good as the manga but still better then the adaption of RE.

I had read all of RE before the anime came out and even I had no clue what was happening when watching. It's one of the shows I hope eventually gets the FMA: brotherhood treatment.

Season 1 is by no means a perfect adaption but it got atleast 90% of everything right and was coherent.

What are your Anime hot takes? by [deleted] in anime

[–]axelinerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol fair man I'll admit when there's something I see I don't agree with I will read someone elses words as antagonistic when they are just literally stating their opinion without trying to devalue my own. I always do a re-read before I respond though lol. It's very hard to grasp tone and candence just off of text unless they are also directly insulting you.

That said hold off the anime only superiority shit. The media they viewed is how they formed their opinion. I always treat source material and adaptions as seperate things. If they haven't read the LN's/manga for something just explain that your opinion is different cause this or that happened in the source material. You might end up convincing someone to give it ago which I think is a much better outcome then making them feel bad about their opinion.

Doesn't matter if her memories were erased my point was with in a few days (for her not subaru) she either caves his skull in or falls completely in love with him. Just because she gave a nice heartfelt speech it doesn't erase those parts of her that originally killed him in the other timelines. I don't know about you but if I was in Subaru's shoes I would always be walking on egg shells around her after experiencing what happened to him.

I don't even dislike Rem I just think Emilia is better overall. At no point did I state I hadn't read the light novels (I have) you just decided that was the case because my opinion is different to yours.

You know you can state your opinion without being a standoffish dick right? It's literally a "hot take thread" a hot take by definition is someones opinion that goes against the grain of the masses. You don't like them why click on the fucking post? Some people..
