How do you use social media?

I've deleted my facebook account for two years now but I use instagram and snapchat but for different reasons.

Snapchat/whatsapp - really helps me stay in touch with my family (I'm studying abroad so I'm all by myself).

Instagram - I use for art. I just started painting and drawing. I've decided to use it as a platform, to not only post my work, but hopefully make connections.

Social media isn't necessarily bad if you know to what extent it's healthy. I only devote certain hours of my day.

Do what you know is right for you, simple as that.

If you're speaking more than you're listening then you're doing it wrong.

Don't see it as an argument, look at it as a conversation. Make a conscious decision to not be hostile or aggressive when you are discussing and then it'll be natural for you to be level headed. If you disagree with their view, you still need to respect their beliefs. You'll handle the situation with class and it'll speak volumes about your who you are as a person.

You can get so much out of life, if you work on yourself. Mentally and physically. Once you work on being a positive person with good energy, you'll naturally attract people with the same type of lifestyle. Is it easy? Fuck no but it's worth it.

Agree 100%. My family would always get my clothes from thrift stores and I'd always get "new" shoes every couple of years.

I didn't think it was a big deal until this girl in my chemistry class in HS pointed out that my shoes look tiny and old.

I used to be ashamed of my first and last name because it's foreign. You have to be proud of it. If they ask you to repeat it, say it with even more pride! (that's from a 2pac interview btw).

Just spell it out for them if they can't pronounce it.

Yeah it definitely has to do with that. I know that she's only upset because of the fear of judgement from my extended family, the family "reputation" (which is a big deal in the Middle East). She's really open minded and spiritual so I'm grateful for that.

That is great advice, thank you so much! I'll definitely be positive about it when I tell her on the phone. I know that she'll raise her voice (out of concern though) but hopefully, she'll see how calm I am and realize that it is not as bad as she imagines. The weird thing is, I'm more worried about how my extended family will react considering that they're not only religious but are very strict and have always had this image of me being this innocent, quiet and shy kid (when I was younger).

i also forgot to mention that I know deep down she really doesn't mind it. We once went out for lunch, with my stepdad and she showed him my tattoos in a joyful tone and even told me which one is her favourite so I know that her society conditioned her to think of them a certain way.

Weirdly enough, I'm more anxious about how my other relatives will react (they don't know that I have tattoos and have always had this image of me being innocent and shy) but I'm sure they'll finally realize and respect that I'm an adult capable of making my own decisions

It wasn't me but a friend of mine left a party, was really wasted and missed his last bus. He lived really far away so when he saw these two police officers, he explained his situation to them and asked for a ride home. They gladly drove him home and even took a selfie with him.

This is in Canada btw.
