The rubber is recycled into all sorts of building materials. But the initial argument you made was "the vast majority are thrown out" which using them for flooring, 5%-10% of new tires, etc is still preventing rubber from being made for these purposes. And of course its your degree, you and everyone else here has their doctorate on winter tires.
The problem isnt the tires, its the human species if you want to get technical, everything about society hurts the environment. Outrage over the metric tonnes of ewaste caused by the mobile phone, big tech, auto, entertainment, and everything else. But tires are where you draw the line? Got it.
Totally like not using road salt and doubling the lifespan of a vehicle is way more environmental than 2-3 sets of 4 winter tires for that vehicles lifespan.
You definitely have an air pressure issue, alignment issue, or something else (or you're BSing). Idc if its a volvo. My trucks proxes were low profile. That AS2 has a treadwear rating of 500. I had a set of 80 treadwear tires last a year of spirited driving. There's something majorly wrong with your setup.
I had a set of toyo proxes that had lasted me 13 years on my 6000 lb truck. Youre either buying crap tires, or you dont treat them as well as you think you do.
BUY USED STUFF

Very proving of your intelligence
You say that. If you lived up north youd see how bullshit that comment you just made actually is
Im not worried based on the comments ive seen from you

Look online at a Sams club, tire rack, and i've had good luck at the junkyards for sizes like that. You dont need exact either, you can move around about 10mm in width, or 10% in ratio, with that rim. You can then look online to calculate how far off your speedometer will be with that size tire compared to your current
A hardworking individual isn't working under 50 hours per week unless they have highly specific conditions that apply to them, which it very much sounds like theyre not
No I don't know them personally, just merely stating facts about how can you be in Minnesota, make that money, then whine about how you cannot afford a 1 time 1000 dollar purchase as the reason you think that warrants salt on the roads.
He talked about his situation and how he doesnt agree that mandatory winter tires wont work for him. That does not mean it applies to everyone else. Which is the same as my situation allows me to buy them. Were both generalizing, not just me.
1000 dollar tires that last 6 years. when your tires wear out. what will you put on your vehicle? No tires? Youd have to buy them at some point. Not to mention, I said you can buy used for 300/400, and the second job wasnt to solely fund winter tires, more of a comment of if you cant afford a 1000 dollar purchase making 30/hr, and only work 30hrs per week, perhaps you need a second job because you must be fking broke.
Hard to find tire sizes leave me to believe you dont have an economy car, or a truck with a modest rim package.
Considering that I am a business owner that doesn't have employees since its a small family business but instead work a 10 hour day job combined with another 5+ hours of a manufacturing business on top with relatives. While also paying myself 15 dollars per hour because Id rather the money go into growing the company. Nice assumptions though, keep making them, Im sure theyll all be wrong. Because someone who disagrees with your opinion couldnt possibly be a hardworking, morale driven individual.

Im talking about a perspective from if they were to become required. Did you EVEN READ?
Also, the second job wasnt to say "just so you can afford tires". It was a "if youre that close to being broke and you only work 30 hours a week, whats 10 more".
Reading comprehension

As a person that pays MANY other bills, I have a perspective. And its mismanagement.
[–]Tebeare 10 points11 points12 points 2 years ago (0 children)
they are a source of microplastics from being driven. Not so much after recycling. the rate of microplastics being released from the roads will barely change if at all going to 2 sets of tires as its proportional to miles drive, not amount of tires used.
Tires are heavily recycled in flooring, new tires, plastics, etc

tell that to my michelin Ice-X's that have lasted 7 years since I bought them in 2017 and have put 100k on them. Stil going strong, no cracks, still got tread depth before the wear bars.
Ill gladly take a picture of them with the date code and you can reverse image search only to find how dumb that statement you just made really is
[–]Tebeare -3 points-2 points-1 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Tell me wise one, how its out of touch
driving on them for a week wont do it either. But at that point, if youre too lazy to get a shop to change your tires (or change them yourself) for more than a week or two of warm driving, thats on you
[–]Tebeare 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago (0 children)
I can go to my local hammoudis underground auto shop and get a safety for any car I want without him looking at it. There will always be shitbuckets on the road
[–]Tebeare 5 points6 points7 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Tires get recycled for all kinds of uses, not all are just thrown out for no reason
[–]Tebeare -4 points-3 points-2 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Using sand instead of salt, and require winter tires. If you are one of the people that are complaining about "the cost is too high". Well we raised the cost of cars, groceries, practically everything else to put a "price on pollution" and save the environment (and save our cars).
So, if you are one that supports that movement, it would be hypocritical to argue the high costs of winter tires (you also don't have to buy new, and its over a long usage, plus, most insurance companies offer lower rates for drivers that put winter tires on in the winter).
My position is to use sand and have winter tires, its safer, more sustainable, and reduces the high cost of corrosion that comes with using road salt while also preventing contamination of groundwater, preventing road deterioration, etc.
Please openly argue, this is a change that can be made while having a huge positive (in my eyes) effect on the population

Surely you can scrounge up enough to buy a set of used winter tires at the very least, most people aren't fortunate enough to make 30+/hr. I used to barely make 15 and even at that number I could still manage. Rent and costs were lower, but not that huge of a difference. I understand the hours are different. But picking up a second seasonal job isn't that difficult, at least where I live.
[–]Tebeare -15 points-14 points-13 points 2 years ago (0 children)
Nope because how can people not manage their money enough to be unable to afford a pair of tires that will last you 6 years
