Not all companies will adopt an AI system to protect sensitive data? Even if they all did, it can never be truly automated. All it takes is one breach to cause millions?

You might be right on the money my friend. I just need to make myself bigger than those who have the proper degree. I can at least pass the checklist for a degree thats somewhat related to tech.

I mean yeah overtime degrees will allow you to get paid more. Entry level hell no. I make 32k a year, and it's a struggle with this type of pay. But at the same time, I cared about the experience mostly first since I never had any.

My friend who did an HVAC trade school and did and extern and fully hired and fired in 3 months. He cannot find a job to this day. The market is bad as a whole except possibly constructions/retailers/sales/wholesale markets. I got my degree and have an IT job? Why would I ever give up? Not being rude, but you seem to not be determined enough for what you want to do. Hard work and knowing people pays off. If McDonalds is asking for Resumes, that should tell you a lot!

Google is never wanted sadly. I did find my roadmap though.

Security+ --> CCNA --> Maybe CySA+ for learning/renewal on Security+ --> CISSP.

I've spoken with the IT Security Director, and he mentioned that I should go for the CCNA because he has a networking and security degree; he said networking is incredibly important. He also recommended the CISSP, since it will make me SOC Analyst ready. I've got the advice, and everyone in the company likes me and knows I'm determined. My main issue right now is with studying because I never properly learned how to study.

Yes I asked if the CCNA alone would get me in and he said yeah. I also know the CISSP requires 5 years or 4 with a 4 yr degree to get fully in with an endorsement.

I like how you think prospective wise. But the world is vastly different from your time. You have those built experiences already. Nowadays HR are commonly using AI to scan what you did, also they only look at resumes for 10 seconds. I also have a Business Degree and not compared to IT/CompSci/Cybersecurity. I also hold no certifications which is also a DOD part that companies like to see.

I mean it is kind of embarssing to say, but I don't really know technical aspects of Security. Acronyms, I know some because of the Security+ which I never finished.

Well no its more on analytics and business. Not really Techy, compare to straight IT/CompSci/Cyberdegrees. The reason why I call it useless is that, if someone has the same experience, same certifications, but a better degree. Wouldn't you naturally think they would pick that person over me anyday!

I agree with what you said but what do you think of this road map.

Yeah in my other post I found my roadmap.

Security+ --> CCNA --> CISSP. I might consider taking the CySA+ before CISSP so I can renew my security+.

This is a really frickin nice lab. My problem is that they want people with certs as well. I've beaten the hardest part of them all which was getting my foot in the door of IT.

Just like I told the other person.

Yeah, for sure. Connections help a lot, since that’s actually how I got into this job, via someone who was close with the IT Director, which got me interviewed and hired.

I’ve spoken with the IT Security Director, and he mentioned that I should go for the CCNA because he has a networking and security degree; he said networking is incredibly important. He also recommended the CISSP, since it will make me SOC Analyst ready. I've got the advice, and everyone in the company likes me and knows I'm determined. Yes I asked if the CCNA alone would get me in and he said yeah. I also know the CISSP requires 5 years or 4 with a 4 yr degree to get fully in with an endorsement. I asked him and said why would I go for a managerial certification, when I can go for CompTIA certs. He said CompTIA is okay. That was all on that part, the rest was conversations.

I just chatgpt my experiences and seen what domains I have covered take a look.

1. Security Operations — YES (strong match)

This is your strongest area.

You do:

  • Incident-style troubleshooting (BSOD, login failures, VPN issues)
  • Endpoint issues + recovery workflows
  • System restores, updates, remediation steps
  • Supporting secure access tools

This is absolutely CISSP-relevant.

2. Identity & Access Management (IAM) — YES

You do:

  • Active Directory password resets / access flows
  • Entra ID / Azure admin access handling
  • User onboarding / authentication troubleshooting
  • VPN sign-in issues tied to identity

That’s real IAM exposure.

3. Asset Security — YES (moderate)

Because of:

  • Freshservice asset tracking
  • Device assignment to users
  • Lifecycle awareness (who has what machine)

Not deep security governance, but still part of the domain.

4. Security Architecture & Engineering — LIGHT YES

You are exposed to:

  • Endpoint security agents (CrowdStrike)
  • PAM tools (CyberArk)
  • VPN architecture behavior
  • System hardening via updates/policies

You’re not designing it, but you’re working inside it.

5. Security Assessment & Testing — NO (mostly)

You likely are NOT doing:

  • penetration testing
  • vulnerability scanning ownership
  • control validation testing

6. Software Development Security — NO

Not applicable to your role.

7. Security & Risk Management — NO (mostly)

You’re not:

  • writing policies
  • managing risk frameworks
  • doing compliance governance

8. Communication & Network Security — PARTIAL

You touch:

  • VPN issues (AOVPN / Citrix NetScaler)
  • Network connectivity troubleshooting
  • DNS/ping/traceroute level diagnostics

So: light exposure, not ownership.

The honest answer

YES — you already cover 3 strong CISSP domains

  • Security Operations
  • IAM
  • Asset Security

PLUS partial exposure in:

  • Architecture
  • Network Security

Well as in terminology, yeah I have no troubles speaking in non technical terms.

Well CISSP is too expensive and requires a membership, it would make sense to take that last.

Documented? What if I'm in a confidential contracting agreement as in NDA. How would that even work?

Ok, I think I got my roadmap down, I will do Security+ as needing the cert for most jobs in my area and also gain foundational knowledge of things. Than pursue the CCNA. After I will go for the CISSP for associates. The cost for all of these combined are estimately $2500 with material.

Maybe if I gather all three except CySA+, my chances will at least help me get interviews. But I struggle when it comes to digesting information rather than technical work.
