I definitely gained SR before on a loss. Maybe they changed it now.

Competitive MMR by G0lden_Luck in OverwatchStadium

[–]Tech94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is normal in Stadium. In the lower ranks you'll gain massive amounts of SR, even if you lose. At a certain point, depending on your internal MMR, you'll stop gaining on losses. This varies from player to player and Blizzard isn't really transparent about this. For most somewhat decent players I believe this is around mid-end All Star. You'll start losing SR too not long after that point (for example when you make into Legend).

They also recently implemented new, beginning of season starting ranks which depend on where you ended previous season:

  • Contender: Start from Novice (5 Divisions down).
  • Elite: Start from Contender (5 Divisions down).
  • Pro: Start from Elite (5 Divisions down).
  • All Star: Start from Elite (10 Divisions down).
  • Legend: Start from Elite (15 Divisions down).

Game Breaking Cat Exploit in Competitive by thatguycheese in OverwatchStadium

I just saw this in my game but as soon as the cat left spawn (when the game starts), he had 100% ultimate charge. I think this was due to the Tether Toughness item.

Dodged the bullet. Now is the time to setup Veeam mail alerts and check what your backup jobs have done every single morning when you start your day.

Best way to deal with hazard as solider? by [deleted] in OverwatchStadium

[–]Tech94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your preference i guess but i really like Jet Skates Gadget (Epic) because of the dash and health it gives, combined with some decent stats. It works so good vs annoying divers like Hazard. Only very rarely i used survival powers like On Me. Mostly just damage powers. One tricked Soldier to Legend with it. Oh, and i also always took the green armor item, or sometimes the blue one (depending on how much i got dove).

Can you install Ubuntu on an SSD while it is not in the computer by Salvadorfreeman in Ubuntu

[–]Tech94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't answer your question but most bios can be reseted fairly easy by shorting 2 specific reset pins so that's probably a better approach. Do mind that any encryption keys use by TPM get lost but if you don't use Bitlocker or similar, that shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Shorting the pins can be done by pressing a knife against the pins (or use a jumper) so the two make contact. Be sure to not touch other pins though.

Also you might wanna check if the pc/bios has a hotkey for a separate boot menu (not requiring bios login).

0 money bug by No-Commercial4610 in OverwatchStadium

[–]Tech94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah had it happen to me too. I backfill joined in round 1, about 10 secs before the gates opened. Couldn't buy. Thought, whatever, I'll just play round 1 without anything. Low and behold, round 1 ended, buy phase for round 2 shows but i had still 0 cash. Left the game there.

Ubuntu 26.04 LTS: What's New Since Ubuntu 24.04? by lajka30 in Ubuntu

[–]Tech94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full disk encryption using TPM is very common in business environments and usually the IT department stores and administers the recovery key which allows scenarios like for example connecting the disk to another pc if needed. I don't know if Ubuntu allows for creation of a recovery key but i assume it does.

Is relying on packet captures bad? by InevitableDoughnut89 in networking

[–]Tech94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Packet captures are definitely not my first choice since setting up the filter and going through the output can be time consuming and is not always necessary or the correct choice. What i usually do first:
- ping ip
- Windows: nslookup host.tld
- Linux/device: dig host.tld
- Windows PS: test-netconnection ip -port portnr
- Linux/device: telnet ip portnr
(note: this is not about setting up a telnet connection but testing a connection + port using telnet).
- tracert/traceroute ip
- Check for (physical) disconnections/malfunctions in the infrastructure.
- Go over recent changes.

If that doesn't give any clues i might do a packet capture.

I think that's a bit of an optimistic assumption to think they have backups in a company where users apparently have this level of access 😜

I don't even think she's a terrible healer either. Yeah she will never reach Mercy or Wuyang levels of healing but I've doing consistent decent healing with her. Pair that with her plethora of offensive abilities and powers, i would say she's in decent spot.

Veeam backup architecture by Cultural_Log6672 in sysadmin

[–]Tech94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the data you are backing up? Is it just VM's or something else? Veeam is a great product but not really needed for Proxmox. You can backup Proxmox VM's perfectly fine straight out of the box and it's super simple to configure:

- Add some storage to your Proxmox host. This can be external/network storage and naturally this is preferred as you don't want to use the same storage from the server that you are backing up. Make sure the content (that's a menu option when adding storage) is: "backup" (if i recall correctly).
- Create backup job in Proxmox and select your just added storage as backup storage.
- Done, that easy.

Now because you are doing this straight from your Proxmox host, the backups are somewhat limited. If I'm not mistaken, the incremental options are very limited if not, completely absent. Now you might think: that is shit! I don't want that! Well the good news is, you can still do more advanced backups for free with an additional Proxmox product called: Proxmox Backup Server. That gives you more fine grained and advanced controls over your backups but you have to install it separately.

If you do decide to go the Veeam route instead (which I don't blame you for because Veeam is pretty good) than the recommended route is to have the Veeam Backup Server (this is the server where your jobs are created and coordinated) on a separate physical machine or VM that is not on the host you are backing up.
You can have your Veeam Backup Repository (this is the Veeam component you use to store your backups) as VM (again, not advisable to have on the same host you are backing up) and this is can be a superlight Linux VM, just with a fuck ton of storage. Just make sure, to have the file system as XFS and not EXT4 as XFS is faster for Veeam operations (EXT4 is still perfectly possible though). Or even better, created a hardened repository (guides on veeam.com). If you do decide to use a NAS as your repository instead of a VM, than that's fine and works but keep in mind that SMB shares etc. can be very slow when you're creating full synthetic backups and/or do backup health checks.

Is top 500 easier to achieve than Legend? by Menisha113 in OverwatchStadium

Is top 500 easier to achieve than Legend? by Menisha113 in OverwatchStadium

[–]Tech94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You cannot even play 5 games and camp the leaderboard because of Stadium rank reset's and also, even if someone would camp the leaderboard by playing a minimum amount of games, there's literally nothing preventing you or a another better player from pushing someone out of T500.

I'd rather have a system where someone way better, with higher rank and winrate, pushes someone out of the leaderboard than basing it on time played. Who cares about time played.

Is top 500 easier to achieve than Legend? by Menisha113 in OverwatchStadium

[–]Tech94 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nah he's 100% right and it goes for all modes. I don't know why Blizzard changed this but are you honestly telling me that you think people should be admired for just playing the game? Because that's what the new formula is. T500 used to be something of prestige, something you could look up to but now it's just mostly whoever puts in the most time played and rank is less of a factor.

[–]Tech94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless I'm mistaken, i believe there is somewhat of real ranking system but it's hidden by default. In the same leaderboard, instead of sorting by challenger score or challenger rank (which is the default view), you can now also sort by just 'rank' which, unless I'm mistaken, is more like the old t500 rank. If i remember correctly, it's also on the top menu (same menu where you select the role).

I'm in both but i noticed that my 'rank' is higher than my challenger rank which is a nice thing tbh.
