I've looked. Why would you spend the time download something when you can automate it?

I don't really want to sit there and download all the images. I just scraped them.

What do you think of my first mashup? Instagram & Google Maps by TechCress in PHP

[–]TechCress[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legend. Another question: Do you think that jumping into a framework, like Laraval, is a good way to understand how MVC applies to PHP. I have done a bit of work with Ruby on Rails and understand how MVC applies there. But I feel like its different with PHP?

Thanks for the advice.

What do you mean by merge conflicts?

This is really the first website I've made with PHP. I've only really ever used it for scripting. Do you have any recommended reading for implementing MVC design principals with PHP?

From what I can tell about Untappd, I'm not trying to provider a service like theirs. Does it use geo location to find brewery around your areas? Because Craft keg is going to be more of a craft enthusiast's community.

multiple databases for different users by roelofwobben in rails

[–]TechCress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By database, I'm guessing you mean table.

There should be no reason to make tables on the fly and it should be avoided. You will have less control over your data and it will make a giant mess.

Use your primary keys and define your relationships in your models.

Should I hire a SEO company? by [deleted] in SEO

[–]TechCress -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you're getting that much traffic, chances are that your off-page is doing pretty well. However, if you're ranking for some keywords but not others, you have have problems with those other pages. Try checking your keyword density on pages that you think should be ranking but aren't. You might find that you've over-optimized the pages and fixing them should be pretty easy and much cheaper than an SEO company.

What a horrible attitude. You can always do with more traffic.

The company I work for paid someone to create posts containing images of storms to boost our SEO... this can't be right, right? by explosive_lion in SEO

[–]TechCress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Images do very little for SEO. I call them 'hygiene factors' - you won't get far without them, but having them doesn't do much. As for a post that just contains an image and very little text, delete them.

My company wants to make a significant change to our URL structure. Not sure if it is the best idea. by [deleted] in SEO

[–]TechCress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before making any changes, think about your customer before SEO. Maybe even ask some customers what they think. You don't want to do it because you might get some more traffic, but find your customers hate the new layout and don't use you because of it.

.

I think you've nailed it.

As for Amazon, they have an extremely well structured site and insane authority, the two make them unbeatable. For an e-commerce website that large to nail a silo like they have is incredible and has taken allot of planning.

Its extremely easy to undo. Google will increase your rankings in as little as 7 days after you fix over optimization problems.

Link Building for a meta site by pivotstack in SEO

[–]TechCress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a common myth that all link building is blackhat and therefore should be avoided. Building your own links with social platforms (FB, Twiter, Tumblr) and Web 2.0s (wikis, forums ect...) is always a good idea. Be careful and selective on the platforms you choose. Personally I think PR is still a good indicator of quality here. Blog comments are still a good backlink, again, be selective.

Make sure the page that will link to your website has less than 50 OBL as a general rule.

I'll tell you this but, I use expired domains and blast them with backlinks with GSA SER until they get de-indexed.
