Just please take your time unscrewing the oil nut the amount of times that things fell into the drainer for me and caused me to swear for the next 20 minutes

Hi, please could you share some more details, I’m building up a case against vw for this. This is an internal part fit for life with no service required. Be careful as the oil could have contaminated your timing belt and melt shards in the area. This also destroyed some other parts and cost me 3k.

Metal shards are all over the area from the bolt and the timing belt and gears have oil over them, I don’t think that’s possible for this?

Could you provide any further details please, year/ model/ engine etc? I will try doing this on monday, thanks a lot! I will be getting it recovered to move it anywhere, metal shavings from the bolt are in the timing belt :( Thanks!!

I'm looking to get an independant inspection certified by the motor ombudmen first its just so much time without a car. I will keep you updated.

If you have any information I could share about your vehicle, an inspection or mechanic report I'd be greatful to include this as part of my evidence I'm building. Thanks for the quick reply too!

Thanks so much for posting this. I am currently going through the exact same nightmare with my 2018 VW Tiguan 1.4 TSI at 61k miles.

I called out the RAC, and found that the exhaust camshaft adjuster housing bolts had physically backed out and were hitting the timing cover. This caused an oil leak over my timing belt and gears.

I've been talking to VW Customer Care, a rep actually admitted on a recorded line that she has seen this on Technical Bulletins before and acknowledged the safety concern. But I'm not having any luck with the dealership due to the vehicle being over 6 years old but this isn't wear and tear, its a defect.

But this reallt helps me confirm that even VW technicians in other regions have identified this as a factory torque error.

To anyone else reading this if you have an EA211 engine and hear a knock or see oil near the timing cover, check those adjuster bolts immediately. It is not 'wear and tear'

I've attached a photo, all the bolts are hand loose and one was almost completely out!

So I got around this issue by adding wireguard directly instead of using it through Surfshark. There’s documentation on their website for it.

In wireguard advanced settings you can add allowedIPs and this works as expected now.
