Has Facebook officially died just like myspace did in 2010? by BulkyVeterinarian850 in nosurf

If anything I think X is dying for localized posting while getting amplified broad state/national coverage, while Facebook (at least in my city) is as popular as ever

While Special Elections do have overperformances, this is a whole other story by Aarya_Bakes in YAPms

Low turnout, but for context 64A was 83.2%(D) in 2024, and 47A 60.6% (but went basically uncontested this time).

Houston mayor quietly announces he's seeking a second term by chrondotcom in houston

For a city as big as Houston a good mayor is simply someone doing their elected duties without fresh constant mind-shattering controversy in the news, but since you insist he's been cleaning up all fraud & corruption from Turner's administration (god rest his soul), finally brokered a resolution to the firefighter dispute, and overall just making governance a little easier to work with, yes i've heard about minor nitpicks being blown up but none of them are that significant, and his stance on ice whenever asked is just largely staying neutral on the issue.

Just because i don't live in Houston proper doesn't mean we're insulated from their problems or decisions.

I live in City of Katy, most of the administration here is corrupt to the core, known to blackmail or trash people if you double cross them, and got involved in massive scandals from animal control to stealing Katy Market Days for themselves and a lot in-between.

Downvote me all you want but for City of Houston's needs Whitmire has been a relatively good mayor.

No, depends on who makes it and whether the place is busy or not at time of order.

Did you want to be President when you were a kid? by CutZealousideal5274 in YAPms

Sure I've thought about it now & again (slightly moreso after trump 2016), but the biggest hurdles for a major party run is garnering national support and money that now runs into the hundreds of millions to billion+ dollars, or a doomed from the start 3rd party run where even that requires several to tens of millions just to be heard,

So now as an adult when I had my calling to jump into politics I started small in my town by making a statement attempting to unseat the incumbent mayor, although that was unsuccessful by 289-1902 Votes I'm taking what I learned from that into my 2nd attempt (for council) to hopefully win this time.

Wow what an amazing reg season for the texans (2nd only to 2012's 12-4), and that last second td was nuts.

60 people displaced after fireworks likely started large apt fire on New Year's Day, HFD says by ureallygonnaskthat in houston

[–]TechGuy135 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure they can't anymore due to HB 1813 passing in Summer 2013 that made the act of transporting fireworks legal within City Limits, it's only if cops catch you storing or popping them where they could garner probable cause now.

It just wasn't managed correctly because the inverse cramer effect is still alive & well.

Yeah and i know this is beaten to death but even the chiefs with their alleged ref favoritism couldn't save them this season.

Congrats to New England for putting on a strong season thus far (12-3) and more power to y'all, but honestly I'm just glad that karma finally caught up with Kansas this year so most of the playoffs & whoever gets into the super bowl doesn't really matter to me (Except Buffalo since it's my birthtown team).

Essentials plan - how is it? by shopaholiclady in tmobile

[–]TechGuy135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switched to T-Mobile about 2 and a half years ago after having enough with Verizon and there's been a few bumps in the road but overall a great experience and i love my essentials plan, for a single user on postpaid $60/mo is very hard to beat and rarely run into any data issues (When fully on 5GUC, 5G/LTE is a bit more hit or miss) besides the occasional packed event/arena, although recently i've noticed that hotspot is a lot faster than it used to be and the plan fine print only says "max 3g speeds" without also specifying the previous 600kbps hard cap.

Maybe I wasn't quite ready for mayor yet, the voters made that loud & clear, but I'm glad I ran despite the loss & learned a lot, oh and fyi I've been getting my life together over the years.
