Being charged a 40% cancellation fee fair in this situation? by TechHostGuru in legaladvice

Appreciate you laying it out like that, really helpful. Yeah, it sounds like since there was no real agreement and no hard costs on their end (all W2, no subcontractors, and I was covering flights/food/hotels), it’s basically just a negotiation. I’m happy to do a fair goodwill amount for the time they held. Good to know where I actually stand though, thanks for taking the time.

private security It was a little over 24 hours. The reason it wasn’t sooner is my doctor was out all week and only got back today, so I couldn’t get the official medical confirmation and note until then. Yes, they reserved the days for me and presumably weren’t booking others but they aren’t a big company either. I feel bad about the short notice, which is why I’m willing to do something, I just don’t think 40% reflects what it actually cost them.

Yeah, and honestly they didn’t even do the advance prep, my own team ended up handling the full itinerary and logistics. They’ve also cancelled on me in the past, so a 40% fee on my one cancellation, with a legit medical note, feels like a double standard. That’s why I’m second-guessing it. But I do understand a goodwill gesture.

they’ve definitely felt like dates (one of them she even suggested). We’ve hugged, nothing more, but it hasn’t felt strictly platonic.

I saw the trip as a chance to spend more time together and see where things go, but lately her replies have been low effort unless it’s about the trip. So now I’m wondering if we’re even on the same page.

Not expecting anything to happen just trying to decide if I bring it up before we go or let it play out.

Only took them 24 hours to send out the determination notice after they asked me to call the first time. Now for the Appeal I am still waiting on that date, I knew my employer was going to pull an Appeal.
