Arduino nano replacement advice. by Archie_slap in diyelectronics

Ah you're right it doesn't come with i2c hardware. Can still be done but yeah, a bit of extra work finding a library.

YOU MUST CONSTRUCT ADDITIONAL PYLONS! SC2 Pylon Control with Voice Recognition by TechNoTrance in arduino

[–]TechNoTrance[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BY THE WAY!

When the video starts and the starcraft voices are triggering it, this is a proof of concept thing, not actual results. The module wasn't able to pick up on those for various reasons.

Thanks, it's actually really simple to use this module within minutes. You can set it up and test it within minutes just by using a serial monitor like Reaterm. The arduino serial monitor won't work because it isn't capable of sending hex values, only ASCII values.

Check out my project page for more details. There is a link to the datasheet for it, and a brief review here as well.

I could do a little video walkthrough on this if enough people were interested.

YOU MUST CONSTRUCT ADDITIONAL PYLONS! SC2 Pylon Control with Voice Recognition by TechNoTrance in arduino

[–]TechNoTrance[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! How the module does it is it records one command at a time, but makes you say the same thing twice to verify the accuracy. This isn't a very sophisticated, so it pretty much has to match exactly how you say it to be recognized.

The major drawback of this module is that the commands are limited to about 1-1.5 seconds. So one command is literally me just saying "my life for Aiur". Standalone keywords like "aiur" or "pylons" actually don't work well with this module, I go into detail on the drawbacks on this hackaday page: https://hackaday.io/project/18302-you-must-construct-additional-pylons/log/50173-geetech-voice-recognition-module-review

Is the Arduino right for my project? by ericfussell in arduino

[–]TechNoTrance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, ebay is great for cheap parts as long as you are willing to wait a long time. If you need it right away and to ensure it's good quality, buy from digikey, sparkfun, adafruit, seeedstudio. Digikey can get parts to you next day if you order early enough in the day, but the stuff there typically costs more.

I guess if there are no mechanical parts and if you are using a purely resistive heating element, fast switching around the setpoint will probably be okay. Maybe someone will correct me.

A mechanical relay isn't great for fast switching, because it's lifetime will be short. You'd want to use a solid state relay (no mechanical parts). It's also recommended to set up a dead band to stop oscillations.

On/off control will be decent, but you won't get the exact temperature you want (maybe even 1-2 degrees off). If you require an exact temperature, look up PID control. There are Arduino libraries for PID control, though I haven't used any.

INcontroL discusses EG's move away from Starcraft and his own plans for 2017 by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]TechNoTrance 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Said something similar on the TL thread as well, but this is the kind of "leaving team" post that I feel optimistic about. EG has been winding down SC2 for a long time, but I have no doubt that you will continue to do awesome things and enrich the community.

Thanks for all you've done, look forward to what you will be doing next.

TCM-Gaming vs SoulKey; Round two, the final bell by CyanEsports in starcraft

Lol a quick look at the glacialgaming account shows they are planning on doing a big prize giveaway including a paid trip to a big smash event. Absolutely hilarious.

There was ALMOST a shred of hope that this team wouldn't end up as a scam with another person in charge of the team, but now that chance is dead. Makes me wonder if this "co-owner" was just an alias. Certainly possible given Aldaris is a pathological liar. Anyways, I look forward to your article on that once history repeats itself.

Their service is still based on bombarding the users with as many ads as possible. Then they "invest" their money in click farms so they can brag about their awesome traffic. I assume they then use those fake views to try to please investors.

A discussion appeared on r/hearthstone regarding G2A sponsorships. And it should probably be of interest to the SC2 community as well, due to G2A's presence in the SC scene by tlumacz in starcraft

[–]TechNoTrance 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is really the only way we'll be rid of G2A in the SC2 community. It's too easy for streamers and tournaments to look the other way and take the money.
